I handled a USP the other day and fell in love with the ambi mag release. I want you to convince me NOT to buy it, by that, I want to hear what you DONT like about them.

9mm is the round of choice due to group reloading keeping ammo cheap and accessible.

Go.

TIA

I've heard some complaints that they are heavy and the trigger pull is not smooth. But if you've held one and love it then you should probably buy two, one for each hand. Then the ambidextrous features will really come into their own

Not a fan of the trigger.

HK's attitude that they are above the crowd (maybe they are) and civilian sales are a "necessary burden"

That said, the recent drop in both Military and LE contracts has forced HK to rethink their civilian sales. Witness the marketing of the VP9.

Back to the USP, the trigger sucks

IF you're planning to reload for a HK, and particularly if you're going to reload LEAD bullets for a HK, make sure it does not have polygonal rifling.

We have a P30L ( - for sale, BTW  - ) and it has polygonal rifling. HK does not recommend lead bullets for the P30L, and sure enough it does not shoot them well - shoots jacketed bullets just fine, a very nice pistol, but does not like lead. I worked it down to where it shot lead bullets (Lee 125gr TC - available in a 6-cavity mould :D ) very accurately, but by then there was so little powder in the case (2.7gr) that the action did not even pretend to cycle - it reset the hammer, but that was it. We shoot lead bullets almost exclusively 'cause it's cheap, I pay ~ 7c a round, almost all of which is the primer (and not taking into account all the time I spend making the bullets in the first place :ang ), so we put the P30L on the board and will be seeking something with conventional rifling. V:I:

As well, I have large hands, and I find it difficult to get my finger into the trigger guard. I also loved those mag releases, but the result is that you have to thread your trigger finger in, and they poke into your finger and hinder your trigger squeeze, and there's a risk of hitting one of the mag releases and dumping your mag in the process. And as noted, the trigger on the DA/SA P30L is not the best, and there are NO ( - repeat, NO - ) aftermarket parts available for them. It'd be very sweet with a trigger job and adjustable rear sight, but nope - not happening.

Nice guns but a little pricy for what they are. If you have big hands the 9mm is small compared to the .45.

HK's are great guns. No question. I actually really like the feel of USP's and love the mag release.
