9mm USP, convince me not to buy it

Have you been sniffing glue???? My HK USP is flawless over 12000 rounds Not one hiccup and Norinco is infamous for making ####

I have a number of HK's. The one that has been getting most of my time is the 9mm Tactical model. I installed a match trigger from HK in it. When it comes to 9mm that is all I want to shoot. It was always accurate but is even more so now with the match trigger. If you watch carefully you can get good deals on mags for the HK, in 9mm and .40 anyway. I admit, though, it took me 12 months to get the match trigger kit from HK, 14 months to get some ordinary parts. I don't care though, as the guns are so satisfying to shoot. And they don't break down very often.
One quirk I noticed is that the bullets have to be seated deeper on the .45 than with other types of .45's.

The USP is my pistol of choice. Have it in 9, 40, and 45...love them all. For me, the blocky, stippled grip hits home...fits me perfectly, and just feels natural. Accurate, accurate, accurate...can't be more specific about that. Ambi mag release is great, even though almost everyone talks about how crappy it is, and how it's positioned so awkwardly on the pistol. Trigger finger and thumb on both sides of the mag release, and voila...simplest mag drop in the biz. Sometimes, I think that "everyone" says the same thing about the mag release because it's what they hear from "everyone else."

Don't worry about the parts availability thing. The gun never fails. But if you want spare parts, Wolverine can order them for you...supply them with the part numbers that you are looking for (right from the USP owner's manual) and they will get them for you. Numrich gun parts in New York has almost every USP part in stock, and they will ship to us in Canada, although shipping is quite expensive. I have a tonne of spare parts...no biggy to acquire. Just go and ask the SIG guys how they order parts...and good luck finding SIG part numbers. That's right, you guys know what I'm talking about...

Trigger is a bit gritty...I will admit that, but only in DA. SA is perfect. Besides, you can upgrade to a match trigger kit, if you should so desire, and that will pretty much solve your trigger issue. Or even a match/LEM hybrid trigger, like the one found on the USP Combat Competition...best HK trigger, IMO. Again, DA is where you will feel this. If you're not too concerned with DA firing, then you have nothing to worry about. For some competetive shooting sports, the first shot must be fired in DA, so this is where it may affect you...but honestly, it's not as "rough" as it is made out to be. When HK's are brand new, their internals have a gray, anti-seize compund on them. I have found that by cleaning this compund off of the parts and lubricating them with a good gun oil reduces the amount of grittiness felt in the DA pull. Lightening the hammer spring will also help...a factory match hammer spring, or even one from Wolff gunsprings will do the trick.

I love my USP's. I've had P30's as well, and even a couple of P2000's. Sold all the "P" guns, and kept the USP's. For me, they just work. But again, that's just me.

Hope this helps convince you to join the fan club...good luck, brother.

I had a Stainless .45 USP. $995 NEW from a dealer. To big, blocky....lots of recoil. Expensive mags / parts.......

There is a reason they went to the P30 and HK 45 Frame.

Sold it and went to SIG P220. Yes, Heavy as well. But Shoots Sooo Much Nicer. Mags / Parts easy to get and fairly priced.

If you don't really like it in a couple months You will be stuck with it. Unless you unload it cheap.

If you like the USP and it suits you, look for a Custom Sport - essentially a standard USP with a far better trigger, trigger reset and sights, or
A further refinement to the Custom Sport would be the Expert - all of the features of the CS with an added magwell (and a 5" slide/barrel).

I sold a tricked out Expert in a moment of weakness due to lack of use and have regretted it ever since. Won't sell my custom sport for love or money.

I like the usp and was so close to getting one. The grip on the p30 is soo nice and is what I recommend. I currently own a hk45 and love it dearly

P2000 and P30 have better fitting grips. Walther P99/PPQ gives you an even bigger ambi mag release with better trigger too.

Lol nope. Hk sucks buy grand power. Best pistols in the world. The power in them is grand. So grand navy seals have said that thing is too epic to be given to any military force on the planet. Stop looking at my P30L, and USP9 and soon to be mine SFP9, and potentially my P7M13. I hate them all. In fact I hate them so much I am going to go shoot them, and tell you just how much I hate them.

P.S. to the dude selling their P30L is it LEM, if so how much are you asking?

Don't know about the 9mm USP but my 45 USP is my all-time favourite pistol. I have owned quite a few different types while trying to find that "perfect" pistol but I seem to always come back to the USP. Thoughts of selling it and trying another type of pistol always occur but then I come to my senses and prevent myself from doing that! It is by far the best pistol that I have owned. In comparison to the sig, I had the P226 but didn't like the amount of overtravel in the trigger. The trigger on the USP may seem like it is not that great when dry firing but it is amazingly easy to be accurate with.

My opinion.

I bought a brand new usp 9mm $1050 out the door.

Kept it for 3 weeks and traded it for a Marlin 1894 JM stamped cowboy.

My findings.

The Bad

1) The rail is property. all your lights will not fit it. You have to buy a ugly looking gg&g adaptor just to run a light or laser that any other gun will run fine, like a m&p, glock, sig. Good lucky finding a factory safariland holster for a usp w/ light using a gg&g adaptor.

2) Bore axis is high, but so is the axis on a sig.

3) Mags are about $50-90 each. and guys on the EE ask almost new price for them. You can't find $25 mags on the EE like for glocks.

4) Although parts are available, the market is not flooded with them like the glock.

The Good

1) The gun is ###Y!!!!!!!

2) Grip feels great in my hands.

3) Chicks dig HKs

So in Conclusions.

For my polymer needs, I chose gen 4 glock I own a 27. 19 and 17 on the way.

for my full metal body needs I chose sig 226 / beretta 92.

My first hand gun was an HK USP-9... after doing my research and shooting as many pistols as I could I settled on the HK. It's built tough, shot very well for me from the first pull of the trigger and it's ###y! My non-gun wife even thought it was cool looking and enjoys coming to the range with me. Magazines and parts may be a little more expensive and hard to get but honestly... I don't care. I would rather spend the money and get something that is quality built and will last a lifetime. I got mine out of the US brand new for a killer deal and have never regretted buying it for a second. I have thought about doing the HK match trigger kit on it but to be honest... at this point... it shoots just fine for what I'm using it for. Every Tom, #### and Harry has a Glock... be different and treat yourself to royalty! :)

I cannot believe all the posts about the trigger being bad/gritty/sucks on the HK USP. I bet none of the folks have shot one before. If anyone wants to try my USP and show me another stock pistol short of a gazillion dollar 1911 with a better trigger, please PM me.
