9mm vs 40 for the girlfriend??

I have both calibers in similar pistols and the 40 S&W is snappier for sure and if you don't reload there isn't much you can do about it. But you never know the added recoil might not bother her, like others have said it would be best if you could let her try both.

The age old question : what " blank " for my girlfriend .
The way I'm looking at it it has nothing to do with the ###es and everything to do with the wrists .
I know some females with healthy large wrists . recoil and pistol weight is of no concern . I also know some guys with damaged wrists and a few with tiny ones , for these people recoil and pistol weight is everything . These people tend to prefer a light pistol with a round that "pushes" in recoil . The problem is a lot of these people buy a light gun and then buy factory ammo thats full power and generally they dislike the results .
A 9 or a 40 can be tuned with reloading to be total pussycats , so can a 45 . which one is better is besides the point , they are both great choices . picking the right fitting gun would be a bigger concern , the ammo can be taylored to the shooter later.
Just my 2 cents anyway .

I think as long as your girl is under 150lbs the 9mm should be sufficent to dispatch her.... a good JHP will expend all its energy in the first 13 inches :)

I must advocate for a more equitable solution..... 9mm might be good enough for her.... but if she grabs the piece, wouldn't you feel bad if she'd have to empty the mag to get the job done?

How's it going all you handguns shooters out there!?

I've got a question for yah...my girlfriend has been shooting her 22 pistol for a couple of years and now its time for her to step up to center fire. We've decided on the Springfied Armories XD for her but we can't pick a caliber. I want to keep the recoil down and as managable as possable for her.

So ...should I go with the 9mm or the 40 cal. I don't own a pistol in either caliber but I've heard that the 40 is actually easier to shoot then 9mm because it isn't as snapy...what do you think? If there are any women in the crowd your opions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone!

Dunno about the XD but my GF has a P7M8 and its far from being snapy. Actually she has more fun with this one then she had with that POS Ruger MkII...

Just make sure she shoots you two jokers in the head....if she dosen't hit anything vital, you won't die :D

Damn the MkII would jam every 20 rounds or so. Didnt make any sense.

I am a girl and i purchased a .40cal for my first handgun (walther p99) and i LOVE IT. But at the same time you wont hear me dissin a 9mm. Either way is a safe bet!

Chicks dig Sigs , get yourself/her a Sig. Skip the lil hole makers and go straight to the P220 .45

Single stacks fit their hands better too....... :)
