9mm vs. 45

I have the NZ-85b and the trigger is decent, 9mm is around $3-4 cheaper a box than .40 and almost $7 cheaper than .45

For $600 plus tax you can buy a the NZ and the .22cal M93 from Marstar or Lever. The .22cal is super cheap to shoot, then you can save money to upgrade to nicer pistols in both calibres.

You're right on line with the NZ85, especially one that's been gone over by a competent dealer/pistolsmith (like me... 8) ). I'm not fond of the SIG-clone. The 9mm is probably a better choice for a beginner than the .45, both for ease of learning, and for cheaper ammo.

An option is one I sell a lot of - a brand-new REAL CZ75 at only $649 - or $699 in satin nickel, my favourite. I feel the difference in money is well worth it, but it is more...

Best alternative IMO, is the .40S&W.
More power than a nine but slightly more cost in ammo and snapy muzzle jumps. Less power than a 45 but less expensive to reload.
Due to the fact that the forty is jumpy, getting more practice will help your accuracy issues with this caliber.
Price of ammo wise, the choice is down to a nine or a forty.
Pure fun, stopping power and better bullet balistics, the 45 is king.
I'm gonna get a G22 in the new year, or when my student lown gets in

I don't reload and I REGRET getting rid of my Ruger P89. I love shooting 45, but it's expensive. 9mm is fun to shoot and pretty accurate to boot. I currently have a CZ SP-01 on order.

At SIR, American Eagle 9mm is $9.49.... AE 45 is $15.99. Do the math! :p I'll still shoot 45 when I get my 9mm... but when it gets down to the nitty gritty of handgun shooting for me... my Ruger 22/45's will always get the most range time. $15 per box of 525 rounds  Can't beat that.

If I was to recommend one :)shock:) HG to shoot and have a blast with... I'd say on in 9mm would be the way to go. 22lr is fun and all... but no comparison to a mag full of centerfire ammo. :D

I do love shooting 45 though....

9mm is the way to go way cheaper for ammo and brass is much cheaper to. The 9 has more than enough power to take down the crazed paper target men that might come chase you down at the range.

hilarious!

thanks for the tips guys, I bought a norinco 1911 .45 off of Gunnar in Prince George the other day, he smoothed it out and put a couple hundred rounds through it, so I think I've got it sorted out

I reload and cast my own bullets for both. Cost to reload either is the same for me. The 1911 in 9MM is just about as much fun as you cann have with a pistol. The NP 29 Norinco would be my first choice, accurate, reliable and inexpensive to buy. Claven2 has a Norinco A1 that is a thing of beauty. Ask him for a picture or two. Norincos are great buys for the beginner and can be upgraded for $500 and you will have as good a gun as you can buy with a lot better steel in the slides and frame than you will find in most of the production guns.

If you want 9mm and don't want Norinco ... go for the K-100

Hi-Tech, Accurate, Ergonomic and $595 with 2 mags and adjustable sights.

not to mention the designer / manufacturer posts here and really does make changes based upon what 'we' like / want.

And who would that be?

This guy, and if you watch some of the forums, you would see he answers any and all questions about his product...

Another good/cheap 9mm is the Ruger P89. Nice shooter,a little large but does the trick!!

Damn straight, it's a little ugly, large, long DA pull, but it goes bang every time on any diet. I have yet to have a failure. I have huge strong hands, so it works like a charm for me...however, when shooting the STI .40 afterwards, it's like driving a volkswagon vs a Porshe....thing is, you would never take that porshe off road or take chances with scratching or damaging it, expensive to fix and maintain...the Ruger, hell, it'll shoot even if you beat the crap out of it....

The .45 is more fun but the 9mm offers a wider selection of guns and cheaper practice. All my high volume shooting is with the 9mm and the .45 is more for ####s and giggles :)

I've never seen the point of the .40 myself. If you want economy, shoot 9. If you want the big-boy cartridge shoot .45. The .40 seems to me like a crappy compromise between the two that the Police grudgingly accepted because their beurocrats didn't want them to have the stopping power of .45 guns anymore - like .40 is more PC and touchy-feely or something.

Frankly, against unarmored assailants I'd much rather have a .45 than a .40. Both rounds will blow clear through the bad-guy only the .45 will leave a bigger hole.

If the bad guy is armored, run for the squad car and dig out the bigger guns because - news flash - .40 ain't going to defeat any decent kevlar I ever saw...

Its not that bad. It is just a misunderstood cartridge. Not loved by its parents, but tries hard to impress us.But it still is better than the .38 special +P we use at my work!!
