9x19 bullet preference?

The 124 is the default standard. Of those not shooting 124's, more seem to go for 147's than 115's.

I prefer 147's.

With much of the anemic American Eagle loads...147gr for extra momentum for strong HK recoil springs.

If you can get it loaded to 9mm NATO (old Norinco 9mm was) velocities 115grain works just fine.

When I got my Sig P226, I tried a variety of 115s, 124s, and 147s....all grouped well, but I found I liked shooting the 147s best. Also, got a really good deal on a couple thousand rounds of Winchester Ranger in 147, so that helped!:D

Ever so slightly off-topic, but does anyone know what the military loading was in the 1960s & '70s? I have a T-Series Browning Hi Power that seems to be shooting low (@7 yds.) with my 124 gr. Frontier bullets and I'm wondering if the sights were designed for 147 gr? Could be due to other factors, of course, like the shooter!

My glock likes the heavy stuff. 147 when i can get it.

Someone needs to throw a clever thread jacking picture for the above post. Anytime now......

Military 9mm ammo is 115 grain.

Military 9mm ammo is 115 grain.

Thanks. Hmmmmmm.... I've been given to understand that heavier bullets shoot higher (all other things being equal, due to longer time in the bore, apparently) so lighter bullets might bring my POI down, not up. Next time I'm at the range I'll try shooting with my wrists on a rest to minimize the human factor and see where things end up. I don't want to file that tiny front sight down any further, although I've been thinking of putting adj. sights on it.

I tried some 147's with my Shadow reloaded to a nice IPSC minor PF of 130 to 132. The recoil I got with these felt more like the "push" vs "slap" of a 1911 compared to full house 9's. But with the relatively slow velocity the bullets printed on the targets about an inch high at 12'ish yards. That and the slight extra cost due to more lead and copper pushed me back to the good ol' all around 124gn which shoots nicely to POA at a 130 to 132 PF.

Mind you I just got in on a sale for Blazer Aluminium in 115gn for $209/1000. I picked up two cartons so I guess I'll be shooting 115's for a while... :D

I have reloaded 1000 rounds of Berry's 115gr copper plated RN with 4.6 grains of Titegroup and CCI primers. This recipe feels much more powerful than Blazer 115, Federal 124, and UMC 147. I am shooting a Steyr M9A1 so it has FTE issues with factory ammo, much less FTEs with my reloads.

My next order of bullets are 124 gr Berry HP copper. I will only feed copper or FMJ because I don't have to clean the guns as often.
