A 22-250 Remington

So that didn’t take long.
Out for a drive scouting deer but for some reason I’m looking for varmints...
Coyote mousing at 400 yards in stubble. Perfect. Park. Walk. Set up. 250 yards. Down he goes.
Back to the truck since it’s closer, drive in there. At 50 yards he gets up and skidattles. Well that’s not how it’s supposed to go. Hmmm
Drive another half mile. Badger long ways out in the pasture. Park. Walk. About same distance. He didn’t get away.

Very Kool ! Badgers are a protected species here in BC - you seem to be able to regularly harvest the Buggers ! Open season ? Lots of them around ? Wondering Thxs RJ

NIce looking rifle.

22cals are my favorite. ALways wanted to try something other then my 223 though. Ive looked at the 22250 with a fast twist acouple times in the past, but I have started accumulating parts for a 22br though. The sweet spot for me is the 70gr - 80gr range.

Nice badger. I have one farmer tell me all the time that he has badgers and I see the mess they make, but whenever Im around they never seem to be out and about. Only had the pleasure of seeing one in my whole life. Youd think that the amount of time Ive spent being out and about, that Ive seen ALOT more then I have.

I’m a .224 fan boy also having both a .223 (9” twist ) Remmy VS 24” threaded AND a recently purchased Bergara B14 HMR .22-250 (9” twist) 24” and threaded.

Right now I’m developing a load around 2975 fps for the 75 grain HPBT by Hornady. All good fun. Right now it loves that 55 gr. VMax booolit exiting 3000 fps average. Yeah, i know it’s slow for any .22-250, but i like accuracy more. :nest:

Enjoy the .224 addiction!!

My 22-250 went down the road, leaving behind a mountain of brass and reloads. In my opinion it's the just right combination of speed versus diminished returns and barrel life, in the 22 varmit calibers.

Where I live, it would be effective for these lilliputian blacktail, although 22 bullets are almost exclusively highly frangible varmit bullets. The other issues for me, most 22-250 are either 1-14, 1-12 twist. The 50-55gr bullet weight is just about the heaviest they will stabilize. About the only game hunting bullet I can think of is the 60gr, nosler partition. I'm sure Barnes makes some bullets, but being copper would be even longer, harder for slow twist barrels to stabilize.

What twist is the barrel other 700?

Another one.

My agenda is to locate a mule deer however I am flexible.

This one is a 10 twist. So probably run the Barnes bullets but not the 75/80 vld/match types.

The 22 br appears more efficient compared to a 22/250. A friend of mine built one but I haven’t seen it in action. I need to ask him how the brass is made. I don’t think it’s quite as fast but I’m still on the fence as to whether or not a 22-250 is a real world benefit over a 223 Rem.

Shot hundreds of fox and a few Sika deer with 52gr Nosler Custom Match from my 1/14 22-250 Howa. They seemed to expand more consistently than some other 50-55gr bullets I used.

Those would be cool rugs. Nothing cool like that here. Very occasionally a rain wolf will swim the 5nm over from the mainland. There aren't even coyotes on the mainland, the cats and wolves eat them when they come up the coast. Predators are those elusive wolves( good luck calling them) and cats, for which you would need a trained pack of dogs.

Should just get rid of the 22-250 stuff.

Thats a very nice build! Just needs gun kote! They look goofy (in my opinion) with blued reciever and stainless barrel. Awesome gun though!!!

22 BR is necked down 6 or 7 BR brass, no other changes that I'm aware of. I have a fast twist 6 BR (very accurate rifle), and have owned a 7 BR in a XP100. Most accurate "handgun" I ever had. Never owned the 22 version though. - dan
