Some guidelines for an event
Here's what we do:
First, I am only able to use 22 rifles at my range but I see no reason why pistols can't be used.
We set up an IPSC type stage, including barriers and obstacles, etc.
Targets are almost always steel, and they may vary in shape and size, from 2" square to about 6" square (or diameter if round). Sometimes we use pepper poppers set quite lightly.
We use about 10 or 12 targets on a stage. We try to decide a reasonable time limit to shoot the stage. Usually between 30 secs and 1 minute works well depending on the complexity of the stage and the number of targets. The shooter gets one point for each target knocked over within the allotted time span. Highest total score wins.
If there is a tie at the end, we run a shoot off, re-shooting the stage and reducing the time by 5 secs each time until a winner is declared.
We shoot on pads that are 30 or 40 yards deep, but there is no reason not to go longer assuming the range you have access to will allow it.
Thanks to Specter Arms whose question prompted my reply.
It looks as if Edmonton will be first off the mark to get something going unless somehow Victoria/the Island gets rolling soon!
