A COUPLE OF SLOTS AVAIL: Vintage Battle Rifle Shoot - west of Calgary: June 28 and 29

If I end up coming, I may be able to help you out.
I have at least 100 rounds of Port Non Corrosive. Just need to find it.

Corrosive or non, I don't care!!! PM me with your price for the ammo pls.

Oh yeah, OP, I need directions to this place. I know it's west of Calgary, but from there I have no idea.

PS: Chamber flags for bolt-action rifles?? Isn't that somewhat superfluous? All one has to do is keep the bolt open and the rifle is safe. Is this something that Homestead Range requires, or is this for this shoot only?

Really thinking about taking time off to attend this. I have a couple questions can you enter twice in a division? I have an 03 and a smle I'd like to use for the vintage battle rifle, but can't make up my mind. Does an M1D make the arc for scoped vintage battle rifle?

Let me try to catch up on the questions in the latest round of posts. Just a reminder for those jumping in to the last page of the thread that much information is posted on page 1.

r_taylor: The classes are not broken out into a variety of fine increments. The Modern class is for any sight so, sure put whatever glass you want on there. Just know the guy next to you might be using irons.

DaveMachine: Course of fire on the Saturday is 10 rounds at each of 100 and 200 metres. Sunday, for score, is 10 rounds plus two convertible sighters, at each of 100, 200 and either 300 or 400 (depending on range condition on the day).

shredder: A map showing the location of the Homestead facility can be found on the APRA website here. Highway 68 turnoff from the TransCanada. Event is on the fullbore range. Yes, flags are required on the range for all rifles.

live4therut:A single payment gives you the chance to shoot more than one rifle in a class. Others, myself included, are planning on bringing more than one (for me it will be the Ross Mk III plus another player to be named later. Here's the caveat for all of us who would like to air out a couple of rifles. Our first priority will be to get everyone who has registered through once, first. Time remaining each of the two days will be for going through a second time with a different rifle. There may not be enough time to get through a second time. As for the M1D, it'll go in the vintage class.

Again, emphasis for this event is on this being a fun shoot - with a chance for you to put yourself and your rifle through its paces, and maybe win some hardware.

Did I miss any questions?

One final note, I'm holding spots for those who have been getting back to me with the registration information listed on the event details post earlier in the thread. The event does have a cap, though, so only when the $25 fee is paid is your space confirmed.

We will also be shooting at the Swiss club up the hill that weekend. If you have a Swiss rifle and would like to try our 300 meter range with computerized scoring, drop by.

I'm not yet certain that I can make it, but concerning chamber flags, would a bore-snake type of pull-through hanging visibly out of both muzzle and breech suffice?

Could a sporterized Lee Enfield shoot in the diopter/glass category as my second rifle? My primary rifle would be a Finnish M39.

Thank you,
Joel

Hi joelvca. The chamber "flag" you mention should be fine. Thanks for checking.

As for the sporter Enfield, it would need to have a vintage target sight (PH5, etc.) or an original, military, scope.

Just a heads up. Rooms are getting scarce but we found rooms at the Stoney Nakoda resort just west of the ranges. cost is pretty good. 2 guys for 3 nights was $400. Not bad.

So looking forward to this. Finally managed to get my SVT out to the range last week to make sure that it would actually work after cleaning it up and tweaking it over the winter.

A two-hundred round bruise on my should says she'll work just fine.

Quick question: I'm going to be trading dead gophers for practice time with the boomstick with some friendly farmers over the next few weeks. By "prone" shooting, do you mean prone unsupported, or prone supported? ie: Can I use a backpack for a front rest?

Recce21...as long as there's no jeering from the peanut gallery, observers are welcome. Bring some water, lunch, snacks lawn chair, etc. For anyone else planning on coming out just to observe, please let me know by PM so we can get a rough count.

grelmar...supported/unsupported was a matter of some discussion at the Ross event last year, and figured in planning for this year. In the end, it was left shooter's option.

Still about a foot of snow in spots on the range and where there's no snow it's muddy but, hey, it's only May, right?

We had 18 slots - the cap there to ensure we had time to get everyone through the various courses of fire, and there will be at least four in the modern battle rifle class.

Okay...interest continues, so we're going to tag team on targets. This means we can accommodate a couple of additional shooters at the event. Only a couple, however, so let me know if interested.
