A day out with a few rimfires - Part 3 –

So we had another awesome invite to Steve’s private back yard range and I thought I would share in some of the gun #### that was in attendance. I regret not getting some good pictures of all the steel targets that went out to 300 yards. The winds and cooler weather made for a challenge. 30-50km shifty winds made it a fun Sunday for the second day of shooting! The Saturday shooting was great fun too and the kittens were in full attack mode for each of the shooter in attendance. Dinner was a fantastic treat with Tenderloins done to perfection by the expert guest cook and there was an abundance of extras including everything but salads this year! And some crazy microwave skills too! The chocolate cake was a better choice regardless, lol.

With snow on the roads we knew we were in for cooler weather

The science of a better bench height and construction was in full swing over the weekend with several ideas in attendance

Bench Bench “spaz” Bench (tough trying to keep up to the target shooters!)

A wildlife sighting on the way out

And of course a nice 64 action with a neat adjustable stock! (I want one of those)

I am hoping the crew can add a few target pictures of their best groups and a big thanks to Steve for hosting the fun and educational weekend of shooting in crazy winds!

Thanks for sharing. Steve has an awesome backyard and his guests a great array of rimfires. The spotter in the second last photo may be giving the shooter an advantage.

As an aside, may I ask what are the white structures with the dome-like "tops"? They look like observatories.

Nice pics Mike, don’t have any group numbers but there were lots of small ones shot.......except on Steve’s targets......

Steaks were Tenderloins done to perfection.

The nerve of that Cat jumping up on ones shoulders just as you where about to Score in the 10 Ring !
Looks as though there has been some recent development at the Range too.
Fun day for all parties and the kittens too.
The fox was not a target of opportunity ?
thanks for sharing the day.

Awww Rawb, grewp therapy, me thinks.
Interesting assortment of benches and seats.
And those hard hats on the sheds?

Great photos.

Thanks for sharing.

I'd like to say I'm happy for you guys...but since I didn't get an invite... :)

Looks like a nice day with some fine artillery! Well done. I like the benches too.

I will let Steve comment on the observatory structures but they are for star gazing with the big scopes!

They were the best ever! You do have a skill with the Steaks! I have edited to correct my typo. Too long a days as of late! Wish I had some target pics!

No shots on the fox, just a random sighting on the way out. Its rare for me to catch one in the open. The kittens were great fun!

OP - tell me more about this rig please.

This rifle is one of mine. An Anschutz 1727F in 22lr with a 18" barrel (first one in Canada- Thanks to Brad at Nordic Marksman!) I modified a MDT rimfire 54 action chassis to make room for the larger trigger and straight pull action. I was a bit of a hack doing the conversion but this still works great even if it looks a little rough! I want to try one of the new MDT stocks on it as they look great on Steve's FDE 64 action chassis.

Thanks to all for the comments! And to Steve for a great weekend shoot!

Still sub MOA? Did you have to machine/glass/pillar bed the stock on the mod?

I did not drill or grind the critical mounting face within the chassis so that is still factory. The 54 action and the 1727 action are both the same OD. No bedding was done at all, just material removal to make room for the bolt and trigger.

My best for Sat was .229" at 50y and .244" on Sunday (measure outside edges and subtract .215 for bullet diameter) I have done very little shooting this year so someone who can read the winds would do way better on average. The 1727F shoots! Was using CenterX. I have way more faith in the chassis than the wood stocks for limiting flex and movement.

Thank you ! I see a new toy in the future for myself.

Thanks for posting the pics Mike, and (small)Toolman, awesome steaks!!! I think the best group of the day was my double mag dump with the STG44 on your collection of bugholes :p

Yes, those domes have scopes inside, when it's light out, I shoot, when it's dark (and clear) I take pictures of sky stuff.

Cheers. That was too funny with the mag dump x2, wish I had Toolman's reaction on video. I will have to remember to try bribe you with a chocolate cake for next years invite! Lol

Toolman is the best when it comes to the steaks!

I still think Steve was hoping for a tossed salad however.

I'm going to leave that one alone... but what happens on shoot day.... stays at shoot day... ;)

Cool little event you guys have, thanks for sharing the pics. Cats, huh? Think they can do whatever they fe-line like ;)
