Hey Guys,

Thinking verrrry long and hard about getting a CSA VZ 58 in .223 Remington. I just have some questions about how reliable the gun is and how people are finding it. I'm sure that if I buy it, it's likely a 2014 production model, correct? How are they working? I had heard a while ago something about VZ 58's having to be sent to movie arms for warranty work.

If I buy this thing is it going to be reliable? Am I going to need to send it off for warranty work?

I'm also considering installing an AR magwell adaptor if I do buy the rifle. Should I do it? I know It will increase my round count per mag to a possible 10 rounds if I'm using Lar-15 mags. But would installing the adaptor affect the reliability and function of the firearm? Is it going to be like: "yay I can use 10 round mags but I get a FTF or FTE every 20 rounds!!"

Are the 5 round mags that come with the .223 rifle any good? They look like plastic but I've also seen some black, non-see through mags. Maybe they are metal? Are they any good?

Thanks for any help guys. I appreciate it more than you know.

I'm honestly in the same boat, I have not decided if I want the VZ-58 or Type 97, however I'm going to be wait and see if they reclassifily the AR-15 anytime soon;/

I've heard mixed reviews about the clear magazines, some people say they work fine, some say they aren’t so great, however it could be the ammo they are firing.

My question is about accuracy on the VZ-58 in 5.56/

Mine fires reliably every time I shoot it. I have some minor peening of the bolt carrier after about 800 rounds but it does not seem to affect the performance. One of my favorite guns that always come with me when I head to the range.

First if you're waiting for AR to get reclassified to nonrestricted you'll never buy a new gun. Lol. Sorry but I believe this to be sad but true. I love my AR and wish everyday I could hunt with it. The perfect hunting/sporting rifle.
That being said I love my vz58's just as much or maybe more. I have 4 vz58's and only one AR. I have the compact version .223 with magwell adapter. I installed mag adapter before I ever fired a round. It has been 100% reliable and a ton of fun. I run D&H metal mags, pmags and pistol mags. Don't know about beowulf mags. I just got a couple this week. I will be testing these soon. The newer production ones have had the issues fixed. Mine is a couple years old but never had any problems with it so far.

Hope this helps! Don't wait get a vz58 and start having tons of fun!!!

See Lobster pot..........that's the kinda post that makes me go spend some money, haha. Glad you're having fun with your guns. I didn't know that the adaptor would accept PMAG's. Good to know. Thanks for your post!

Here`s a couple of My Non restricted one. Hope it helps you spend some Christmas money too!!

From arrival-

Scope mount and red dot added-

Just need the bolt for the wood hand-grip and she`ll be finished (Except a muzzle device of some sort once I know what I want, and the magwell adapter one of these days :) )

Went out to the range, new gun ran flawlessly. Ran lake city 556 through it, 90 rounds and awesome performance. Is pretty windy here today so was not able to test out the accuracy well but everything at 50 yards at least was on paper haha. The plastic mags leave much to be desired IMHO. They work flawlessly but i find loading to be kind of a pain!

How is it removing the dust cover/bolt with that scope mount?? Also, i thought i read somewhere that Pmags wouldnt work for whatever reason with the magwell adaptor.

Love my VZ Sporter in 556. It's been 100% reliable with LAR mags and AR mags. Ran the original mags a couple times and they worked but like was said in an earlier post leave something to be desired. Shooting reloads I've been able to acquire MOA accuracy with my rifle. I will be using to hunt canines if ever I get the opportunity. I'll have one of the restricteds one of these days in the original x39 as well as 556. Need a NR x39 also. Truly never ends.

Where is the best place to buy an AR magwell adaptor? Is there a selection to choose from or only one you can buy?

I love mine. It is as accurate as any semi auto I have shot. Love the plastic factory mags. Reliability has been good. Recently sent more than 300 rounds downrange with nary a hiccup.

I did have to send mine in to movie arms last year and it has run flawlessly since. The turn around time was 2 weeks in december and I was able to get a couple spare firing pins out of it too.

I would highly recommend getting one.

Are the black, non-see through .223 factory mags made of metal, or are they made of plastic like the transparent factory .223 mags?

Plastic. The clear ones would actually be pretty good if we could use standard capacity mag(30 rounds). Easy to see how many rounds left. I think they're tougher than they look. Not sure tho as I've never used mine. I picked up a mag adapter in a deal. I actually had it before I got the rifle.

I wonder why they would not make a metal magazine for the .223 model? Seems so bizarre to me.
