A few questions about the Tavor...

To each their own, I guess. I have a Swiss CQB. Great gun; different class though and restricted. Heavier, fixed sights and no standard mounts. A few more $, too. And no optics inclusive. This isn't a comparison; they're both great, wouldn't part with either.

I'm running a CQB as well. Lots of rail options available, B&T, KPA, etc...Not having the MARS sight "inclusive" with the Swiss Arms is a good thing. It isn't a good sight and most Tavor owners would've much preferred not having to pay close to a $1000 for it, when there are much better and most cost effective options available such as the Aimpoint or EoTech. The Tavor is still a well made rifle, but like anything, the customer always want it cheaper!:)

Yes, although a full set of B&T rails (sides, lower and profile) will run you $$. I think you mean the Meprolight (the MARS was an upgrade option).

What Gremlin? I have yet to see it in nearly two crates of ammo and I'm not the original owner. The CZ is not my go to rifle but I wouldn't feel bad if it was all I had left.;)

So the cz is reliable because you haven't experienced the gremlin even though many others have, yet the tavor is a POS because it can sometimes slam fire on soft primered ammo, like many other semis?

You're embarassing yourself on here, especially after canam posted those links.

That doesn't surprise me. Most who have no intended role for their firearms or a grasp on the fundamentals of marksmanship don't.

LOL! Nice attempt at an insult, but that's a big Fail there. Plus it's also the worst attempt to deflect that I've ever seen, seeing as how neither point you make has any reference to anything in the thread. Next time at least try to find something a little relevant.

However, as I have plenty of free time I'll bite. I've seen a lot of your posts over the last year, and you seem to be big on theory as to the "practical application" of many firearms, but don't appear to grasp that there are some (dare I say many?) of us that simply don't care. I have very specific intended roles for my firearms, each and every one of them, and none of the uses have the words range, fight or match in them. My guns work on the farm, provide enjoyment in a gopher patch or just hang there to look nice, and even though those reasons might not meet your narrow criteria of what a gun should do or how it does it, I still don't care.

Seeing how you've validated the Tavor with your list of requirements I'd say you're safe there. I have to ask, why the left hand or bottom eject

Of course I'm safe. My opinion is always safe, same as yours. Same as my choices. I'm sure you already know the answer to your question and already have a rebuttal pre-typed, so I'll answer with this...I want left or bottom eject just because I want it. Not because of any "tactical" or "support side" issues or any other arcane theoretical need, but simply because I do. Or maybe it's because it'll throw the empty out of the driver's side window so the brass on the seat won't make the sheep nervous. Or because for once in my life I can have the brass move away from my face instead of across it.

Are those good enough reasons for you? Or do I need some sort of real world data to back them up?

The price on the mepro portion is CAD$300-400 retail. I think it is a decent deal, myself. I think many will like the new reticle.

I never said it was uber reliable. I was simply stating that the gremlin you mention isn't an epic disease as you perceive. Either way both the gremlin and the slam fire issues were rectified without issue. I'd say they cancel each other out. As for the other negatives to the Tavor, well they're still very much present.

Harv,

You make some valid points. You're right about many firearms owners who don't have and don't care about practical applications for their firearms. I have no issue with it. Some want to collect guns, others shoot them, and even some others who wish to tinker with them. What rubs me are the same people discussing what is or is not a quality defensive/offensive firearm or tactic when they themselves have no desire to learn, practice, or perfect one. I suspect it is this lack of caring that is responsible for the distaste of my opinions. The negative attributes of the Tavor(and others) are clearly above the majority of firearms owners as no one seems to see the issues or understand why they're such a concern. This is also evident by your last paragraph. You indicate your desire for a left or bottom eject rifle because you are apparently too lazy to clean the empties off the seat when you shoot from a vehicle. The other reason you state is that you don't want to see brass being ejected past your face. Again, this clearly illustrates you lack of knowledge in practical firearms application. So long as the brass isn't striking you in the face, what is the problem? Are you focused on your sights and/or the target or watching the brass eject from the rifle?

As you say, to each their own and your opinion and decisions are yours to make.

Nice long thoughtful post about reasonable discourse erased, and replaced with short paragraph about how (thinly disguised?) insults and putting words in my mouth do nothing but convince me that you're too narrow minded to see past your perceptions of what is "right" when it comes to how people approach firearms and shooting.

Back to the regularly scheduled programming...I'm really looking forward to seeing the new reticle in the Mepro. Hopefully it'll be the cat's pajamas for 'yotes out to a couple hundred yards, and if someone can come up with a reasonably priced mount and/or magnifier it'll be good for gophers too. :)

You are nothing but hot air, blahblahblahblah training or you suck blahnlahblah Im a operator blahblahblah Glock best................... on and on till the point of nauseum.

99.9% of the people on here buy and play with expensive items because we choose to and can it seems to bother you because we can afford EXPENSIVE range toys and you cant (or wont)

Your right I dont spend sleepless nights worrying about my tactical skills, I especially find this funny. If everyone was like you I would have dumped this fun sport long ago.

Now, who the f**k are you anyway?? And what makes your dribble that YOU spout worth more than anyone elses?

Dazzle us with your Special forces secret hand shake or your Seals coin or something of the like.

This is exactly what I'm getting at. I don't need to dissect your side, as it is your take on shooting so why should I try to change it? I also don't need to defend or "support" my decisions because, simply, they're my decisions based my needs, wants and priorities.

As I said, you don't seem to be able to grasp that other people might just think differently than you do about shooting. You appear to have a very narrow and black/white view of what is "right" when it comes to these discussions, and therefore anyone that falls outside of that is then automatically "wrong".

It is also impossible to admit I have nothing, because I obviously have something. You can choose to understand and/or accept that this "something" might not fall within your current views and perceptions, or not. Either way the choice you make will set the tone of your responses on the forums.

It's your call actually.
