A bloke once told me and a mate while on the side of a hill, he had just meandered out of the bush with a pointer dog of some sort, That "You need a 338 Win mag to kill these Sambar deer, the best for the Stags" .... it is still a centrepiece of conversation around campfires today when the weather keeps you in!! ha ha ha :p;);)

Tomorrow morning my mate and I are meeting up for a hunt down the Road a fair way, this time we are taking two Classic cartridges out with us, a 35 Whelen and my mates new T3 9.3x62... The jokes already started but atleast we are not under gunned.

I'll be sure to get some photos of the rifles an cartridges in the field for you CGN'rs , an wouldn't it be nice if my mate can Roll a Stag with the new gun! (he is the 338 RCM owner too ) :runaway: He is Due for one with Horns!

usin 250gr Hornady reloads , and 286gr highland factory ammo.

Will be our first real good crack at Sambar for this up coming Winter, so definatly very xcited !!
Keep ya posted!!

My Friend Blooded the 9,,3 !!!
That Bed behind the Tree was where the Deer was Bedded, early AM, my friend stalked along a game trail and spotted its odd shape beside the tree, a few side steps and big breathes, boom. one shot. 40meters an the projectile 286 PPU/Hiland appeared to have broke the shoulder and sperated, we couldn't find it following a decent wound channel, but lung on far side was ok...hmmm anyway , This bloke has done some miles, an I mentioned last night how he deserves one with horns... Well he bloody well got horns alright!! solid set mature animal!

AWESOME stuff. short carry out. will be shoulder mounted

Your mate will have no problem at all with his 9.3X62 on Sambar. Neither will you with your 35 Whelen. Both are solid 300 yard big game cartridges with spitzer bullets.

Look forward to the pictures.

I have a 35 Whelan Remington 700 that I want to shoot a moose with. Unfortunately, yet to find a co-operative moose. Previous ones I shot with 30-06. Hoping for a bang-flop.

Guy told me something similar. It's been gathering dust for the last 30 years and the only thing I've shot with it is a Mulie, while the 7mm was at the gun smith's. :)

BAH !! HUMBUG !!! If you can't kill it with your .30-06 and a good 180grnr, You may as well pack it all up, head for home, and re-evaluate your life choices ! ! ! !

"...286 PPU/Hiland appeared to have broke the shoulder and separated,..."

I load the 286gr PPU bullet in my 9.3, now I know what to expect.

Nice 3 pointer, congrats!

are you telling us that the 9.3x62 is better than the 338 ...???
Schit No, but I'm a Woman when it comes to Recoil,,,, I found the 9,3 very tame, especially with the 286 PPU which coincidently is the slowest factory ammo for it..

Well ive read that elsewhere I thought, the bloke on here who did the 9.3 test on cows femur... ill have to go thru it again.
But it has hit right on the point of the shulder As the deer is Bedded, drilled across very broad wound channel for about 6-8 inches then I couldn't find the Bullet, without gutting removed some ribs and exposed Lungs an liver etc found 3 holes/tears through the lungs , the Opposite lung was Fine-- So unless it Deflected elsewhere... but I doubt that, I feel as though it has opened on impart 40meters @ 2300 into Shoulder bone and solid beast..

Anyway, it Douglass Scores around 227 minus 6 for Overspread so a 221 Douglas Score model....... 32 inches long!! just a legend deer.

my mate doesn't quite reliase... he is in the over 30s club.. the elite!
