A little update of the GSG 1911

I was in the store yesterday.

for what it's worth, I was told they should have them in a couple days, and start sending them out in another week or so.

Grain of salt and all that

IMHO patience is a virtue when it comes to our 'hobby' - I mean, our craze - especially in Canada. Don't care what anyone else says, I'm still waiting. ;)

And I'll just buy it when there are 500 left unsold and have it in 3 days. Till then its out of my mind lol

The GSG 1911 pistols have arrived in Vancouver last week. We are currently clearing them in Customs. We expect to be able to start processing pre-orders before the end of the week.
Purchases can be made in our retail store Blue Line Outdoors Sports in Port Coquitlam BC. We are also accepting orders in our Online Store at www.blueline-activities.com or by phone 604-552-8830.

Thank you
Scott

Picked mine up today.
Looks fantastic...bought 2 more mags for a total of 3.
Mags are heavy weight metal with polymer follower and butt plate.
As for the pistol....finish is very nice parker type finish...everthing is metal except front and rear sights (plastic).
Wood grips are very good with a nice stain.

I'll have photos later with more detail......cheers people.

I understood that there are a lot of guys who get their hands on this wonder gun, so still there is no range report on GSG 1911....anybody yet?

+1

Range report & some detailed photos.... close up both sides plus close ups of the small parts for fit & finish etc.....

NAA.

An allen screw and pin needs to be removed before the slide will move forward for removal. Fit and finish isn't bad, wood grips are excellent and the sights are pretty easy to pick up and are dovetailed in (comes with two additional front sights for height adjustment). I won't be able to get to the range for at least two weeks but I'll try to get some detailed photos posted late tomorrow afternoon when I clean it....

Okay, I've had a chance to field strip and clean it. I'll reserve final judgement for after a range session.....

That's all I got...hopefully more people will chime in as they get theirs.

Had my GSG to the range for the first time this evening. So far I'm quite impressed. The mags in particular are really nice, heavy metal body, really easy to load.

I Shot 115 rounds of Federal 36gr hollow point (525 bulk pack) followed by 50 rounds of CCI minimag. It ran 100% reliable, no jams, no Fail to feed/eject stovepipes etc.

Compare this to my Chiappa, which seems to have about 5 FTE/100

As for accuracy, it was shooting a little high, have to change the front sight. Otherwise I'm a terrible shot, so it's probably more accurate then I am.

One thing that surprised me was the amount of recoil. It actually has a bit of kick to it compared to the chiappa. Also seemed louder as well.

Mixed feelings...

I fired 150 rounds of Federal Target through mine. Here's a couple of things I noticed:
1. Small groups but shot about 2" at 1 o'clock from 10yds.
2. The last round loaded into the mag does not always align itself properly with the lips of the mag; I have to jiggle the mag spring a few times until it does. If I didnt, the first round would fail to chamber.
3. The trigger does not feel smooth - even with the tiny travel typical of a 1911. Feels like its grinding, but maybe it'll go away. There is almost no pre-travel, and the reset is short & crisp. IMO, there is too much trigger pull for a .22.
4. I could not engage the grip safety if my right thumb was on top of the thumb safety, i,e, the way I shoot my Trojan. My thumb had to go under the safety, and I don't like that. The grip safety spring is too strong, and I have to squeeze hard to engage it.
5. I had a number of FTFire(?) - not even sure how to describe this... The trigger felt as if it was locked, like in the case when thumb safety is not engaged - except it was... Nothing I'd do would change this, I had to eject a round to keep going. The same round would fire OK if I put it into the mag again.

Overall, I give it a 5 out of 10. I hope this improves as the gun breaks in.

Had a light day at work, so I did some reading. Some ppl took the mag safety out, disabled FPB, and pinned the grip safety. I'd like to remove the mag safety for sure, but I've never stripped a 1911 beyond the usual field-stripping for cleaning. The GSG has an ambi safety, could someone pls tell me how to remove that? TIA.

Also, I'll try a rubber band on the grip safety, for now.
