A Modern (hunter) update

That's above KAC SR-25 ER, Les Baer LBC, way above a GAP-10 so I would expect it to exceed the performance of those.

Mine will come in around the same price as a larue (once currency conversion is factored in)which is what I would buy if looking for an actual ar.

Hopefully it can hang with one.

it would be nice if you posted some pics from the ar-10 as a comparison ....not much to go on with those groups.

Groups with my AR-10 were very similar to the Modern Hunter. All factory ammo so far is averaging around 1.5-2moa with the best groups being just over 1moa. I have a bunch of handloads built which I'll start testing soon. I'm sure with some handloads and load development the Modern Hunter is capable of sub moa.
Both are acurate and smooth shooting but that non restricted status sure is expensive. I'd have to sell 2 of my rifles to buy one.

Good to know....the initial remarks I remember reading were the modern hunter is a precision rifle that should be capable of less than .75 moa and hopefully .5 moa....or am I mistaken??

What bullets are you going to be using?

I never read such claims. maybe with a lot of work building specific handloads you could bring it there.

0.5 moa semi auto is incredible and I doubt it'l happen in these guns myself. Id love to be proven wrong. Maybe one group here or there. But constantly 0.5 - 0.75 I doubt until I see.

I thought I read those claims some where along in the MH threads but I could be wrong....maybe I'm confusing it with GAP 10 accuracy reports from other forums.

I am sure that rifle can do better.

Storm are you able to get some type of shooting vice and test again?

Thanks for our first Modern Hunter range report, these are exciting times.
I'd love to see an Modern Hunter -vs- quality AR10 shootout!!!! :)

Would be interesting. Thanks for sharing guys. Looked like fun.

Here's one from back in 2010 with the AR10. Same idea. Two guys having fun, messing around. Should give a bit of a comparison to this for you. 100m, bipod front, no support for back of rifle, using 3-9X burris Fullfield II. Not real serious target shooting but fun. Ammo was left over from RFB testing.

Thank you Stormchaser and CR5 for delivering on your promise to post up a range report with pic.'s and video too, you guys rock.

I have high hopes for the MH and believe your range trip was a good start. I really think VOODOO will find MOA groups with a little more time and effort on ammo. choice plus a little more magnification couldn't hurt (how do you find the trigger?).

That Hornady 168gr. (as shot by Storm, because those #3 shots really grouped well) might prove a good source to keep close by along with the Fusion obviously.

I would like to see a range report of VOODOO compared against another rifle that is a guaranteed MOA rifle, there by eliminating the shooter(s) from the equation.

Regardless the future of the ATRS Modern Hunter is just getting started so we all have a lot to look forward to.

Cheers D

I mostly use Hornady bullets for my handloads. I have around 500 rounds built using around 6 different bullets and 2 or three different powders.

Keep in mind gentlemen, today was far from ideal shooting conditions, the wind was gusting from the left and we left the range about an hour before the wind and rain storm hit the area.

Most of the ammo we used today was around $20 per box so don't expect much. I was expecting the Hornady superformance to do better but you never know what a barrel is going to like.
We also discovered about half way through our game that whoever shot first on the cool barrel had tighter groups, we didn't let the rifle sit to cool between groups, only when we walked downrange to check and mark the targets between switching ammo types. There was no cleaning done throughout the entire day either.

All said and done I was impressed with the Modern Hunter and if it wasn't for the high price tag on it I'd order one. The build quality and the fit and finish were top notch and the single stage Timney trigger was awesome. I prefer the 2 stage Geissele in my AR-10 for this type of rifle but for shooting off the bench I don't think you could put a better trigger in this rifle.
To me the non restricted status isn't worth $2000 more than my AR-10 since most of my shooting is done at the range anyway and I have plenty of non restricted toys for when I shoot elsewhere but if I didn't have all my other rifles and had to have one do it all rifle the Modern Hunter would be one of my top choices.

When stormchaser is ready I've already agreed to trade him my Sightron SIII 6-24Ă—50 for his NF 2.5-10Ă—32 which should help with the groups as well.
Next trip out we'll try some different ammo and see if we can find something that barrel really likes.

Thanks for this update CR5 your words are appreciated.

I have received multipleinfractions due to this thread and my support of atrs, I'll be removing all content and no more updates.

WTF?? Every one was enjoying this thread including myself, why on earth would you get infractions for showing off your new gun,.. a gun that is being looked at in high interest bya heck of alot of people. Isn't that what gun nutz website is for? People talking about guns?

Could the moderators please step in here and explain why this guy would get an infraction for what he posted? I didn't see anything wrong with any of it, i would have done the same if mine was ready. Im pretty upset that this would happen to him for posting pictures and range reports that people wanted to see.

There was a post report with a picture of ISIS committing mass murder of people tying up in trenches posted to rebute another member in a discussion.

Anyone who posted distasteful pictures that glorify mass killing will not be tolerated and the moderators will be quick to sanction against users who post such images.

Now, please stay on topic.

Thanks a lot Storm.

I greatly appreciated the efforts you made to keep guys like me in the loop.

Might have to ask you for a PM once you have tailored your ammo.

Thanks again.
Cheers
