A Newb's search for a Non-Restricted Tactical Rifle.

If you don't mind a pump action, there's always the Remington 7615 as a choice for a tactical rifle. I've seen some dressed up pretty nice.
I never even considered anything pump action.....learn something new every day. Thanks ;)

I think that what ever I go with will be 7.62x39 chambered as choice#1, for cost effectiveness of ammo, firing cheap surplus -UNLESS- I can get something Un-Restricted that uses AR15 Mags (and I don't even have to explain this one....or atleast I shouldn't have to) and go with a .223/5.56 NATO chambered rifle.

It seems that no matter what, in the absense of a Non-Restricted AR magazine capable rifle, the 858 with a few dollars in tacticool-gear and optics is a decent starting point........

Does a Non-Restricted AR Mag capable rifle exist ?

Also, the Benelli MR1 is supposedly coming to Canada sometime this year in a non restricted barrel length, and there were rumors that it should be under $2000 for one.

Not to hijack the thread here...

But does that Benelli MR1 take AR mags????

And to the OP, I'd go with the AR 180b. They do pop up on the EE from time to time. Then again the CZ 858 is great too.

Myself I prefer the M305. It's got the accuracy, range, and looks. As previously mentioned there are endless upgrades. You can have the barrel chopped down to just over 18 inches, slap some picatanny rails on her, an aimpoint/tac light, and a paintjob and you have a tactical carbine... sort of. And .308 ammo is everywhere; when the zombies crawl up from the pits of hell, you can find it everywhere. :)

According to Benelli's website, yes she does take AR mags.

I'm looking for the same as you are! I'm a couple months into the search and have decided to go for the XCR afterall... Or wait for the Benelli MR1 scheduled for august +/-. a friend of mine has allowed me to shoot his classic green, sl8 and XCR! sl8 is awesome accurate but parts will be expensive like a German car and it doesn't take ar mags without a conversion kit. Classic green is a bit off to me with the built in bi pod. Both over $2800 around here. The XCR seems the best choice to me because it takes ar mags and can buy the .223 for $2300 and swap up to .308 in minutes for $600. That's like getting 2 for under $3000. There is a full top rail to put all kinds of optics and parts 'should' be reasonable

 You got the XCR-M!

O you mean 7.62x39.... ;)

I think you mean .311

Those Benelli MR1's look interesting. I wonder what site sponsor would carry those when and if they do come to Canada. Benelli's website indicates that its has a 16" inch barrel wich would make it restricted here i suppose. As for the rumour of it being rebarrelled for Canada, I just dont see that happening for such a small market right off the initial product launch.:runaway:

If you are thinking about a Remington 700 there are tons of options to make it Tactical looking. A buddy of mine got one of these stocks and loves it. Just throw on any AR style grip and butt you are good to go. He had told me with all the work he spent into it that it only cost around $1200 when said and done.
