Why not?

Been away for over a week, and just got back to Internet Land or would have responded to this earlier.

The 783 is not even close to the Marlin. They are quite different rifles, especially in quality.

Back in July, I posted the above. However, after reading the thoughts of a few others and a couple of reviews, and realizing that as much as I like the Marlin X series rifles, Remington has indeed dropped them from the Marlin lineup forever,..............I took the plunge and about an hour ago took a brand new Rem 783 out of it's factory box.

It is a 7mm Rem Mag, and the tag says, "ACCURACY".

Put a new Weaver K6 on it. We'll see. :)

Not my cup of tea, but, neither was the Marlin X series. Definitely let us know you impressions though. What are your first thoughts out of the box?

Ted, give the bugger a thorough take down & cleaning, then reassemble and torque the action screws to around 40 inch pounds. Shoot from a good rest with the fore end resting on the bag at about 3-4" forward of the barrel nut. I think you will be surprised at what the bugger can do if you give the barrel time to cool between shots.:)

I got one in 30'06 that came to $250 after the mail in rebates....price was too good to not give it a go. Happy with it for the price, shoots moa with 165gr Speer HC. Action is smooth and the trigger is decent, spare mags are cheap.

I just bought a 270
Yet to take it out but I'm looking for brass ND bullets
My whole opinion of it is for under 500$ tax in delivered
For a new Gun with optic, and seems decently built
It be hard to find another Gun in its price range
I think Remington on to a gd thing
My buddies 783 out shoots his 700 hands down
Groups are atleast 1/2" smaller using same ammunition

I'm startin' to think one of the 783's in 7mm. would make for a nice "beater .458 Win." build.;)
Oh oh, there goes the wheels turnin' agin'.:runaway:

Ted, if your rifle don't suit ye, I'd be happy to buy it when yer done with 'er after the season.:)

Jeeeeesh...........whut happened to the Fuddlyness?

Only Ted could get away with this.
Didja buy shares in Remington?

Interesting thread to say the least.

One thing for sure, they are beaten hard with the ugly stick!

Oh yeah, not winning any beauty contest with one if these....
I keep hoping someone will make a decent aftermarket trigger guard, hopefully oval and not plastic....trigger guard is the grossest part of these guns.

Ted, Ted, Ted....you used to sing the praises of classic old Husqvarna rifles. And now this.

No worries on stocks and bottom metal for Remington 783's. Boyds have 'em and Pacific Tool & Guage make the trigger guard/mag.well assy. Me thinks my next .458 will be built on one of these puppies.:)

I've been wanting to build a 7.5x55 hunting rig.....one of these in .308 might be the best route for me. Cheap as hell and would just need to be reemed and bolt face opened a hair. The extractor would probably work fine as is for the 7.5 case and the rebated rim .284 brass I load with.....hmmm. Gotta watch for the sales now lol

Oh yeah, $40 mail in rebate if you bought it after Aug 1st Ted...
