Good day gents.

I recently bought a Glock 22 and scored a deal on Lyman dies for 10mm/40 S&W. Unfortunately I screwed up and bought a Hornady shell holder and it doesn't fit my press. I'll be getting a proper one later in the week but I gave it a try with a shell holder for 38/357. I've resized about 10 cases and on 8 I've got the crease/ridge shown in the pictures. I have about 100 cases I picked up at the range, about half of which looks like it's been fired more than once. I was having reservations about firing the beat up brass to begin with due to Glocks having a part of the case being unsupported, now I know the beat stuff is getting pitched.

Any one experienced this? is it the brass, die, or shell holder?

Sorry about the pic quality, I'll be getting a new camera soon too, perhaps on black Friday since I'll be in the states.

I dont have a problem with the glock bulge

Try backing out the resizing die a little.

What press do you have?

It looks to me like your ram and die aren't aligned properly. But it could be the shell plate too.
 
It's a Lyman Crusher. I've never had a problem like this and I've reloaded quite a bit on the press. I've read that 40 S&W and Glock's aren't the best match for reloading. The shell holder is a very short term problem and I should have a proper one in a few days. It did occur to me that the Die could be the problem but I'd be really surprised if that was the case.
 
Just for the hell of it I tried to lube the case at the head and it had no effect. I'm a bit confused if it's the shell holder causing the problem as I would have thought it being slightly oversized that the case would just align itself as it entered the die.
 
Is there any sharp edges on the die? I also don't understand why the Hornady shell holder won't fit.

Do you have any non glock fired brass?
 
I reload for my Glock 22 and have never seen thus problem, I use a Dillon 550. You may need to do dome adjustments.

No sharp edges visible, the die is nicely polished and the mouth has a nice smooth radius.

I was sure that the Hornady shell holder was standard size but when I compare them to a few Lee and RCBS holders I have the base is thicker. I've been thining it with a diamond file but it takes time and I'm a bit impatent...

This is the only 40 I have, truth is I planned on getting a 9mm conversion barrel right from the start but I paid $34 for the die set so I figured I give reloading the 40 a try.

I think the crease looks exaggerated in your photo. Have you taken the barrel out of your handgun to see if it will chamber? I use a Hornady LNL AP with redding dies and get a similar look as I think they just undersize them slightly. I have shot around 3000 reloads out of my sig without a hiccup. I think you might be ok, unless it is a defined "square" shoulder that it is creating.
 
I get the same thing on brass fired in my Norinco 1911 in .45. They seem to work fine though. I think it is just because the sizing die doesn't go all the way to the bottom of the case, and the last little bit doesn't get sized.

The resized cases chamber fine.

The area in the pic is more like a wrinkle than a bulge.

It also seems to be exclusively on the cases that appear to be fired more than once. Any comments on how many times a 40 S&W case should be reloaded in a Glock? Working on the assumption that this crease is a weak spot and the case should be tossed.

Been reading a little about them while waiting for the posts to materialize. Any reason to buy the Redding over Lee? As I rule I hate Lee Seating Dies but I can usually live with the rest of their stuff and the money I save.
 
I am not a big Lee fan either and mainly buy Redding now but for what it is I would guess that the Lee should work fine, it's a cheap way to see if it works for you.
