Ok I need some help here.
Long story short I have sold my mechanic tools to my current employer and now have some cash.
The tools took years to buy.
So now I have decided to spend some of the money on a special rifle
Something not just a common rifle, something I will keep for years and possibly pass down to my kids.
Budget $6000
Purpose is a hunting rifle but can be a long range rig I can run at the range as well.

Current prospects
Christensen Arms Ridgeline fft titanium
Cadex
Blaser R8
Blaser K95
Blaser s2 i have found one used in 9.3x74r in my price range
Kimber super America?
Weatherby deluxe in a big caliber
Bighorn armory spike driver
Turnbull 1886
I like big bores so open to others

Don’t want a custom Remington or the like as i have plenty of them.
Flame suit on but not a huge fan of mausers so please don’t say get a custom mauser.

Thought?
Ideas?

I'd buy something with a nice wood stock in an African big game cartridges.

Nothing says special like spending $10/shot.

Off your list I would get a bighorn 500 S&W!

Or find a nice Mauser or pre-64 action and have Chris griesbach build you a slim and trim classic hunting rifle

Christensen arms FFT titanium
Don’t second guess it
4.8lbs amazingly accurate, feels great in the hands and shoots lights out with factory.

Contact martini and hagn in bc. They build very nice custom rifles. - dan

Find a Kimber in your choice of action length with an excellent figured walnut stock and send to G.E. Flach. Screw on a new barrel in whatever caliber excites you then have a Wildcat stock fitted as well for rough use. That should leave some leftover for a higher end scope.

OP ..... You need to decide on a rifle that you will want to use and enjoy all the time. Something that is a bit cool, useful for a lot of your style hunting, fun to shoot and not overly expensive to shoot. To put a large amount of money into a rifle only to let it sit in the safe for any reason defeats the whole purpose of a custom rifle.

Since, you have no need or desire for a Rem700 or 98Mauser, I suggest something on a pre-64M70 action. A 257Roberts in a rebarreled action with a reworked stock would fit the bill perfectly to become a favourite rifle. A full blown custom probably will cost a fair bit more than $6k, so keeping the original stock will help your bottom line.

If you are spending 6k on a rifle do you want a double you never use or a hunting rifle for closer to home?

From your list I’d say r8 or k95. Epps has a nice R93 30-06 for much less than 6k. Also a k95 jaeger for just over 6k in 7x65r, I wouldn’t say no to that as an all rounder personally

If you don’t like Mausers does that apply to derivatives? Kimber is on the list so I guess not. Some good deals on Kimber classics out there.

6 k is a lot of cash to turn a factory rifle into your dream gun, or buy a high end bolt gun. Guys in these threads will always find a way to suggest something more expensive though :dancingbanana:

My dream rifle would be three different rifles: a target gun in a chassis with a huge scope and all the accuracy trimmings, a practical weatherproof hunting rifle with a smaller scope, and a beautiful classic in an amazing figured wood stock. I think that last one would give me the most joy to take out of the safe for some Sunday afternoon plinking. But the three could all be bolt guns in the same caliber, maybe even same action.

Though these are stunning rifles they seam to much above my price range

Sauer 404 classic is under 6k

You may be able to find a nice 202 that was never really used for much less. North Americans have the idea that expensive rifles need to sit in the safe. In Europe people often only have the one rifle and it is well used as intended regardless of cost.

The idea of trying to be as cheap as possible when doing something in the hopes they will be congratulated for it by random strangers for it really makes no sense to me. It seems to be a CGN and North America phenomenon, I don't care what someone hunts with or how little they spent.
