A Toddlers First *First BB's fired!*

Awesome! I will definitely be ordering some of these. On the topic of BB's, he had plenty of fun sorting through the target to find the BB's and reload them. No magnet required.

I found that with your own kids if they are trained to be safty conscience you generally have no issues. It's their friends you have to worry about.

Perfect example, an 8 year old boy wanted to see the new BB (not my kid, refused to let him hold it) so we went and grabbed it and the older kids first words were "let's break stuff". My 3 year old wasn't impressed to say the least and scolded the 8 year old for wanting to shoot anything but the target.

+1 on the Nerf gun, whats the rush. Be prepared to take it away for good the first time he points it at someone or thing he shouldn't and give it back when he's old enough to understand.

Thanks, but parenting advice is not needed on this end. However, I am open to advice on molding a safety conscious new shooter while having some fun and bonding time along the way if you have any valuable input.

Pyramex Mini Intruder Safety Glasses

Ordered! Many thanks. Local stores looked at me with blank stares when asking for youth safety glasses.

Very cool idea, but not sure if that'll be good for indoors. Will definitely make some for shooting outdoors when the weather warms up though.

I did order some 3/4" round garage sale labels that are multi colored with pre printed prices on them. I'm thinking we can make up a cool shooting game and use the values on the stickers as a scoring system for how difficult the shot was...harder the shot, the more "money" you earn. Only $3.99 for 455 labels.

I missed the indoors part. Those are probably better outside. Ice cubes are fun outside too. They shatter when you hut them and there's no clean up. That sounds fun. Canadian Airgun Forum has a printable targets sticky, I think. Lots of shooting games. I'll see if I can find the link

Here's a shooting "magic trick" that my toddlers loved. (Not them shooting in the vid, lol)

I'm sure the same could be done with a BB gun

Instructions?

Nothing too complicated. Just stuff 3 or 4 different coloured balloons inside each other. Clench the inner ones with your teeth while you put a small breath into the outer one. Pinch it, slip back to the next balloon, and repeat. The next balloon will seal the first, and inflate it as it grows. When you're done, tie it off, and carefully shoot the edges so as to not pop more than one balloon at a time.

My record is 4 balloons. Lungs won't do more than that lol. If you can pull off a fiver, I wanna see it :)

I just reviewed this thread and found ZERO examples of such nonsense. Matter of fact, I read nothing but responsible firearm use and how safety is paramount.

I decided I was overthinking this for someone so young. I was going to grab a Red Ryder, but it seems too big and heavy so a Daisy Buck 105 is on the way, along with a Savage Rascal for dad to play with until he's proven himself.

good luck shooting the rascal lol. when I took off the peep sight and put a little 4x on ours it was a pain in the butt to zero as I found it extremely awkward to hold. Ended up locking it in a gun rest.

I didn't let my daughter shoot until she was six and it was a Diana single shot pellet rifle she was not strong enough to ####.

And never ever had a play gun or even pretend pointed such a thing at people.

She got a safety lesson "this is a dangerous tool not a toy" lecture before he was allowed to shoot it too.

By 12 she was shooting my 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser at 100 yards at the range.

Glasses (Pyramex Mini Intruder) arrived today and they fit him perfectly and I highly recommend them. The $40 for 12 pairs is very cheap and he really likes the different colors.

With the new glasses and brightly colored 3/4" stickers we got back to shooting today and he did great. He only wanted to take 10 shots today, but he managed to get within 2" of one of the stickers. We used the remaining time before dinner to review the importance of using the safety with him practicing using it and how guns needs to be stored safely. He really liked the idea of putting the BB gun in my gun cabinet so I had to shift my guns on the one side to make room for his.

I think it's more fun teaching him how to shoot this BB gun than it is shooting my own guns.
