A vexed question - good cheap .22 ammo?

For someone who said "NO WINCHESTER", I'm sure seeing a lot of winchester recommendations...

Don't forget to read the entire OP.

For what it's worth I've got m22 from 2-3 lots and I do like it but strongly prefer the fed blue box.

If someone is going to say "no winchester" based on 2 type of 22's, then they don't know how guns work. If they tried 5 or so different types, fine but even then the gun could like one type of winchester and not the others. My 22 likes m-22 and the 200th anniversary stuff. It doesn't really like the other bulk Winchester has to offer.
It also seems like the OP doesn't want any issues with "good cheap 22lr" which is not going to happen... FTE, FTF, etc happen, get over it.

The 41's we have at the club will shoot Blazer but only if the guns are absolutely clean. Any fouling around the extractor or firing pin and they start to jam.

I'm not sure any bulk ammo will work well in a 41, you may have to stick to the high end stuff. If you can find any.

You have Smith and Wesson 41's at your club? nice

This past winter I was having very good luck with CCI Mini-Mag, 36gr copper-plated hp. They were functioning perfectly in my very finicky S & W Model 41. I also had a brick of Blazer that was giving zero problems in the 41. The next brick of Blazer I bought was slightly different (the bullets were gray and the ammo trays were different). The ammo from that second brick gave constant misfeeds in my 41.

I think he is just trying to minimize his issues, I don't know for sure if he's expecting flawless results.

Coincidentally, I do have 5 types of win .22lr that I can think of (m22, wildcat, dynapoint, 555 bulk and 37gr SS HP) and I like winchester enough to continue buying it but with that said, I do seem to have more feeding and FTF issues with winchester than federal based on my experiences. I don't expect any 22lr bulk to be flawless but I'm also always searching for that elusive "cheap and near flawless 22lr".

Personally, I don't find winchester to be consistent enough. Some batches are amazing and others.... Not so much. YMMV.

Personally, I've gotten the best results from the CCI Blaser stuff. Been through a few 5250 packs and great results (for bulk) in my rifles.

But if I find any more before you do, it'll be coming home with me.

Well, y'see, I see it this way; these are problems that I should not've had in the first place. What are the BIG, OLD names in guns 'n ammo, the names you should be able to trust? Remington and Winchester would very definitely be two of them, right? I mean, the local Cr@ppy sells Eley and Lapua, and the Lapua is $7 a box and the Eley is $24 a box - if I was an international competitor, those would likely be good prices for ammo, but I'm not, and the gun will always be more accurate than me, and I don't really see those kinda' dollar signs as money well spent.

So I go with the "good", "name-brand" ammo. I had a box of Vostok once - the cases were black with heavy roll crimps, and I had to pry each one out of the chamber with a pocket knife because the extractor couldn't move them. Serve me right for buying Vostok, I guess, and I don't like sending money to China when people here need jobs so I don't plan on buying any Chinese ammo either. I never had a single problem with CIL ammo, for that matter.

So I buy "Winchester" .22 ammo - for a good price, I was surprised - and it sets a dismal new record for number of misfires out of the box. In two separate lots; and those are the only ammo lots that have ever given problems in our 41. And I buy "Remington" ammo - and the stuff is garbage and filthy and heavily-leads "HER" pistol; I've never encountered leading in a .22 either, not even with that Vostok stuff.

And I should buy more ammo, of any type or calibre, from Winchester and Remington?

I think not. These are the name-brand boys, and they sold me crummy stuff; their reputation is shot with me. I'm well-prepared to pay extra for reliable ammo, and I expect it from those particular brand names; I am not prepared to spend money on trash, and it's being brand-name just makes me madder.

So, no Remington or Winchester.
