I haven't tried this, but I assume it would work...

If you open the magazine, throw 10 rounds in from the bottom (with the bolt closed so they don't fall through), close the cover as far as you can, put an elastic band around it to keep the bullets in, then you have 10 rounds in your SKS, but you haven't modified anything... The plug is still there so it still only hold five rounds if you close the magazine cover.

LOL... I know... This is ridiculous... But so are magazine limits... ;)

Edit: This is kind of a joke...but it does work. I don't recommend it, and besides, your buddies will laugh at you and call you an idiot. The serious part of this thread starts later. I'm going to attempt to adapt my SKS to fit an XCR 10 round pistol magazine. A whole bunch of people got their panties in a knot and wanted me banned because they were unfamiliar with the laws pertaining to magazine capacities. What I'm suggesting is not illegal...as you will find out if you bother to read this, or many other threads on the subject... In a nutshell, you can possess a 10 round pistol magazine, as long as it has been approved by the RCMP (which the XCR has), and it doesn't matter what gun you use the magazine in. This is a well-known fact, and is confirmed by information posted on the RCMP website. This isn't a loop-hole or work-around. There's no law TO get around, but many people think there is. They are mistaken. The capacity of a firearm is not limited in any way. It's only the magazine that is limited. Five rounds for a rifle, and ten rounds for a pistol. It is perfectly legal to use any non-prohibited magazine in ANY gun, even if the magazine was not originally designed for that gun, and even if you have to modify the receiver of the gun to accept the magazine. You cannot modify the magazine, because then it would no longer be in its approved form. There are a number of commercially available rifles which happen to accept pistol magazines. The RCMP is well aware of this as they approved them for sale. Really, there's nothing for anyone to get excited about in this thread...

Here is what the RCMP has to say on this matter:

Not sure how that would play into law. But i would think one could easily consider adding a ruberband a "modification"

Easy. Anything (including a rubber band adapted factory magazine) that holds cartridges would be considered a 'container', and any container holding more than 5 rounds for a center fire semi-auto long rifle would be illegal.

Hehe... I'm not suggesting this is a good idea...

I, like everyone, am annoyed by the requirement to have my beautiful SKS bastardized with a magazine plug.

So I'm trying to highlight the ineffectiveness, and foolishness of this requirement.

What I'd really like to try to do is get an XCR pistol mag to work with the SKS. A buddy of mine is going to lend me one so I can investigate that possibility. He uses them in his CZ858 with an adapter. It may not be feasible, but I won't know that until I get the magazine in my hands. I have the resources to fabricate just about anything, so if I have to make an adapter, I will. (I have access to a lathe, milling machine, tig welder, and lots of experience with fabricating stuff, particularly out of titanium. I'm a millwright).

LOL. I see you changed your response. :D

You have to understand that there are a lot of people on here that equate post count with experience.

BTW, I did get that your post was tongue in cheek, hence my reply. :)

Oh, that wasn't a response to you. But yeah, no need to start stupid arguments. I'd rather stay on topic, which is to legally get the proper 10 rounds in the SKS.

The rubber band thing is a retarded idea, I know. If that's illegal because it's a modification, then hold it shut with your hand. Still, absurd.

But I'm serious about the perfectly-legal-to-possess 10 round XCR pistol mag. I want to make that work. Just need to get my grubby hands on one...which is in the works.

If you can come up with a magwell adapter that allows the SKS to accept LAR or XCR pistol mags you would be able to sell a pile of them.

*edit* Sorry to hear about your cat - not a cat person myself but losing any pet, while not unexpected, still sucks.

Someone is already doing it. If I had your gear and skills, step 1 would be to contact this dude and pick his brain. Might save you some time and inspire some design improvements.

Seriously! Contact him! Make this dream a reality! I have $$$ in hand for the individual that perfects the design and wants to produce them!

What he said. I'm in for an adapter or two if some one builds it. If I had the tools, skills, money and time I'd try it myself. :)

Hmmm... Well I wouldn't be able to mass produce them or anything. Looks like this guy beat me to it anyway. Awesome.

I'm still going to look into doing it myself, just for fun. If I come up with anything I'd share the design. Just need to get that mag. Charlie, are you reading this? Bring that mag to work!

I say contact him anyway. Maybe you can make a better one? Or just finish it? Doesn't look like this guy went all the way with his. If you manage to perfect the design, I'm certain you could patent and sell it or something to that effect.

Once you have a working prototype and a patent, contact companies like BC Tactical. Someone may want to buy the design on a reasonable offer. I would think so, anyway. There sure are enough SKS owners for a good market to exist.

Think of the $$$$$!

Think of the crying lefties. That's my only motivation. I want to do it to spite them. Not interested in making money from this. An SKS was designed to hold ten rounds. Soviet worker did not make for purpose of five rounds.
