I keep my rifles segregated for this very same reason. Remingtons sit by themselves in the back of the safe.It is possible the rifle sat next to a Remington one time and got infected.![]()
Likely hit the trigger with his finger. I have witnessed a couple of guys do this but luckily these rifles did not go off because of the 3-6 lb factory trigger pulls.
Regardless, too important not to have diagnosed.

Forgot to say, he also noted that the bolt was a little stiff to close. Just prior..
it was a one off, as other rounds were tested, but now there is a trust issue, so the rifle is parked.

Most people are unlikely to admit they themselves could have done something like this. Sort of like the guy who swears up and down the animal was shot in the vitals after losing it and then blaming the bullet for poor performance when most likely it was gut shot. Seen it quite a few times.He says for sure did not have his finger on the trigger. He had his hand on the bolt, closing it.
And no, alcohol was not a factor. He's no fool
