Accubond tip breakage

This fall i had 2 incidents of tips breaking off of .338 225 gr accubonds. One was dropped on a gravel driveway, the other hit the door sill of my truck (1st one fell 5', the other about 2'. It was not extraordinarily cold (above freezing) in both cases. Anyone else experience this? Something i can expect from accubonds?
 
Why don't you phone Hornady and ask them. They are pretty open to discussing issues around reloading etc.

Since Accubonds are widely sold for reloading and come in .358" 225gr. for my 35 calibre rifles I would be interested in their thoughts on that. A related question would be will they often break in the mag under recoil (or when top loading rounds quickly and perhaps roughly). First I've heard of this problem.
 
why would hornady care about nosler accubonds. never had an issue with them but never dropped one, usually try to shoot them at the target.....:runaway:
 
Call Nosler or email them. They had a bad run and will send you a whole new box stat. Have the Lot number ready for thier records.

One of our nutz here had that happen Thursday night and they called him early the next morning in response to his email.

I am pretty sure Noel is talking about the sh*ty box of Accubonds I opened up the other night when I got home from picking up reloading supplies. The tips looked almost like they had acid spilled on them and half rotted away.

This is how they looked when I pulled them from the box:

There were quite a few more than shown as well. The third one from the left also looked as if acid had been dripped on the copper as you can see.

Contact Nosler directly.

There has been a fair bit of #####ing about Accubonds that were not fuly rinsed clean after their last bath in the solvent that makes them ultra-shiney. Melted and broken tips are getting fairly common on these things.
 
I had loaded up a few for my 7mm RUM and i broke mine all off sat them to far out in my mag and when i fired the slammed the frame and sheared off the other 3!
tried it again to see and i broke an other 3 lol!!

I shot them with no effect on accuract at 100yards!

neadless to say I have never shot any game with the broken tips but i can notimagin it would have any effect!

My 338 upon recoil flattens tips even breaks off the hornady interbond lead tips ! as well so i bumped them back a few thou!!! and it still did it!

they shoot no different as well!
 
I'm on my third box of the 225gr. AB's myself. I load them up for myself and a friend also and never experienced such a thing. You must have gotten a bad batch, I wouldn't let that discourage me from buying them, everyone has a bad run the odd time. You better stay sharp too, 'cause Dave has the memory of an elephant .... :D :D :D

So did they offer to replace them? I know this subject has been brought up several times on the Nosler forum as has the issue of "soft" Accubonds that pancake on contact.

It is one of the coldest days we have had so far this winter, -27* , and the bearing on the belt tensioner pulley on my pickup decided to calve ....... A great day off I will tell you!

I sent an email to Nosler the second I found those as I was a little pissed. That was at 1:00 AM, at 9:00 AM my phone rang and I was told that a box was in the mail and that they were sorry for the screw up. Supposedly they had a bad run and the lot number that I had matched their records.
