Accuracy International New Models Revealed

3-5 months is what Guy said, but they already have models on order - they've known since August and put in a lot of orders.

Small correction - I spoke to John at SHOT, and they have not yet put in their order. John said they were submitting their order to AI this coming week once John is back home from SHOT. He also said with some luck, they should start seeing delivery sometime in March... :)

I might see it sooner, we'll see. US dealers are already saying demand is going to exceed supply. I was working a build out with GAP that was going to take 10 months, so by all accounts it looks like AI is going to beat that.
Did you enquire about the green AX? I've heard it's been delayed as they want to make it all green. I've also heard it will be green plastic and black metal work.

Spoke to the guys at the AI booth - green is most definitely on the cards, but they are struggling getting the anodizing exactly right, so it will happen, just not right now.

In which configuration? All green or black metal and green plastic?

Personally I hope they stick with black metal and green plastic skins.

The anodised parts on the brown version looks too shiny and gold for my liking. It'd be nicer if it was all dull like the barrel is.

I would be real surprised if it were anything other than black, for green and black models.

AI barrels are actually painted, not parkerized or some other kind of chemical finish like that. For the PSR (and I guess now the tan AX) the barrel and the receiver are painted to match the stocks (see photo on previous page).

Way back, some of the old "PM's" and "AW's", like the ones sold to the U.K. as the L96, the PSG90's to Sweden and (later) the SR-98's to Australia had green painted receivers and barrels. I don't expect they are going to be bringing that back for the regular civy models.

It only looks "shiny" because of the use of flash photography that is fired straight onto a reflective surface. Even the dullest of matte finishes will look like a mirror under such circumstances.

As far as I've heard the aluminum will be anodized and the metal parts ceracoated. Yes they are doing an all green AX in addition to the all tan version.

So the 20 MOA mount is owner removable on the AT . That may have been covered here already and I missed it .

No, I don't think it was covered, but that video confirms a lot of things. Thanks for posting it. It must have just went up within the last few days. If you see any more about AI (from Shot Show 2014) go up on Youtube, post them if you get a chance.

Interesting stuff. Well, that's the future. It's official. For all the guys on here, at the range talking to me when I have my AW there, and wherever... saving up.... trying to put together an AW... with the old-style stocksides and whatever... I guess you can officially give up now. Probably save yourself some frustration in the process.

Both the AT and the AXMC look interesting though. Love to see that L96 sitting in the background there. That's a real beauty.

Its nice to know that tall rail will come off since it is not needed unless you run the NV mount. I guess this means the AI dovetail must still be underneath it, if so that is great news for people that prefer to mount to the receiver and get their optic as close to the bore axis as possible.

ghostie , that vid went up about 10 minutes before i posted it . I was cruising youtube and only by luck but if i see anything i'll post . If you never had an AI , would you buy an AT , why or why not ? You seem to know more about them and the comparisons than anyone so your opinion would be valuable to me . If i'm reading you correctly these new AT's don't do it for you like an AW . This is a big thing for me as although a price may have come down , i don't think i can actually afford it but close so a good chance i'll buy anyway but it's a big decision . 5 grand isn't chump change to me . My SavageFCP McMillan is pillar and Devcon bedded and i'd be surprised if an AT will outshoot it , but a Savage isn't an AT and i want one ... but ... I think my son could do the half minute challenge with my rifle as he shoots it better than i do , but i want an AI . I still shoot in the .600 with mine and old eyes . PS , the pics you put up are killing me but thanks .

I think I would buy an AT, maybe even an AX. I have an AI, but I'm no expert. My beef is just... why won't they sell people what they want? Everyone I talk to about this - including most of the people posting in this thread - want a late 1990's to late-2000's green AW, usually with the folding stock. Simple. Straightforward. Allways the same story, over-and-over. The only thing holding them back was price. Now, as more people see AI as a realistic goal in their firearms... they pull the plug on alot of these guys dream firearm? Weird.

The new models have a ton of stuff going for them by the look of it though. In time, hopefully, people will see these as "classics" to. The AT having the permanently bonded flat-bottom action, that is the key right there... for me anyway. I believe this was a big part of the success of AI - so I'm really glad they kept that on the new models.

Hopefully this quick-change barrel is everything it is cracked up to be. If it is, that is a great advantage over the previous AI's. The previous AI's had the ability to change the barrel relatively easily (for their time), with pretty straightforward tools and 100ft./lbs. of torque. But in the PSR age, that is nowhere near good enough to compete, so now everybody's rifles are user-changeable in the field. Without mentioning any names, there is at least one "famous" quick-change barrel rifle (not AI) that I have seen at my range giving light strikes (obvious headspacing issue). Could be a user problem, but I just hope that AI's system is a cut above. I expect it will be.

I guess the Parker-Hale style bi-pods are a thing of the past now? I can live with that, but I personally would rather have something that mounts onto the front of the aluminim block than a Harris style. I wonder if they are going to ship rifles with the bi-pod shown in the AT photos?

It seems that the AW-style spring-loaded + fine adjustable buttspike is also gone now. I'm personally a big fan of those, but I'll wait to see what the AT's bi-pod turns out looking like.

I'm also with J996 on the idea that the pic-rail on the top of the reciever looks really tall. At least you can take that off.

The modularity is a plus with these newer models.

Be nice if they made the savage AICS more easily available for us as they are like unobtanium as of right now. It's kind of annoying. I really like the product but they are just not very concerned about making many.

I read/ heard on a video that the new bipod does mount on the front, but isn't available until the summer.

In that YouTube video how long do you think the barrel is on the ax308?
It looks pretty short, and the new flash hider does look great in black on the brown barrel.

If I did not already own an AI, I would get the new magnum AX in 300 win mag with the 308 conversion kit. If I have been reading it right, the conversion consists of the barrel, bolt and mag well adapter for the smaller short action mag. Two rifles in one.

Do you, or does anyone here, know the name or manufacturer of this bi-pod? That looks pretty useable to me.

I think the AT is 26" with the two-port "tactical" muzzlebreak, and the AX is 20" with the two-port.

Based on what they've had in the past, the barrels are basically 20", 24" and 26".... and then 27" on the bigger calibres, and there was 16" for a suppressor as well. They may have changed some of that around though.

Ghostie - That is apparently AI's new bipod that will replace the PH bipod. Barrel lengths are indeed still 20" 24" 26.

Yeh I was thinking the ax looked like a 20. It looks nice with the 20 but I think I'd go for 24 minimum.
That bipod is the new AI one.
