Sorry partner, but I disagree whole heartedly about needing 9x to hit accurately at long distances(200+). Now I have ZERO experience with an ACOG, but I do hav experience with older 2 MOA dot 2.5x and 4x hunting scopes. I can tell you right now that I can hit 10" gongs 99.9% of the time out to 400yds off of shooting sticks with a hunting rifle off of either of those. And if you were to give me a cross hair in a 4x I can finish the last 0.1%. Jack O'Connor also used low powered dot reticled scopes while hunting, and I can think of three of his animals he shot with a dot over 300yds (an elk, oryx, and a ram).
Try peep sights with heavy beads or posts some time.
The benefit of the dot style illuminated reticles, like the ACOG, is quick sight acquisition, but that doesn't mean reasonably fine shooting can't be done with one. You just have to practice with it, and learn to use it.
