Hi,

I'm new to hunting and not very knowledgeable about acquiring deer tags. I haven't applied to any draws for deer this year, is there any region for which I could just go and purchase a tag without a draw?

Cheers.

Are you in Ontario? You should also really read your Hunting Regulations, they have all the answers to your questions. Yes you missed your chance at both Deer Draws but you can still buy Antlerless tags in some WMU's.

and in some regions there will be leftover surplus doe tags... Whereabouts are you ?

no i would agree with exidous also...
i've taken the course also, and wasn't told how to get tags other than "apply for the draws".

They don't tell you how to get a tag or what tags are available to you. It's an honest question, stuck up 'know it all' answers and people wonder why some hunters give the rest a bad name. People need to learn somewhere they come here asking simple question need simple answers. As someone stated read the regs and if in doubt give the MNR a call as I did as for a new hunter they can be hard to understand.

guess the quality of training has slipped a notch or two, non the less I'm pretty sure regs were mentioned, and if some areas need clarification this forum is a great source, though putting a bit more effort into wording the question or thread title would have definitely help in not being confused for some PETA activist trying to stir some s**t up

Like others have said - get yourself a copy of the 2012 MNR regs and give them a read. It explains alot of the details involved in acquiring your tags, along with general hunting regulations. You can download a PDF from their website, or goto a outdoor store that sells licences (Canadian Tire - LeBaron - Sail) etc and grab a hard copy - they usually have them.

Hi.... I read the regs...its the first place i looked. I couldnt find any reference to being automatically eligible for one buck tag. If i missed it could someone point me to the page awhere that information is? All I could find is info about the draws.

Thanks.
