ACR: First Impressions

Blaxsun, thanks for the review. It made it less painful to pull the trigger on one of Questars non-restricted FDE ACRs. Transfer is done, just waiting on the tracking number

Is anyone gonna be able to bring in the folding stock? I really like the look of that robot boot...

No problem at all. I'm still waiting on my NR barrel to be finished as well, so I'm eagerly looking forward to ####'s range report (the factory barrel is reported to be very accurate, so it should be interesting with a match 1:8 twist).

They are interesting... but the reality is that the gun came in @ $1,000 higher than expected, and that's why everyone has hammered it for the few quirks (heavier barrel, 1:9 twist, safety location, weight, etc.) None of these are necessarily "deal killers" on a $1,500 firearm, but on a $2,500 one - these plus the Bushmaster brand is a death knell (at least in the USA).

I've yet to hear anything really negative from actual ACR owners, though. And as stated, my first impressions were better than I was expecting. It's still essentially a Magpul Masada for all intents and purposes.

Also in the states you don't have the restricted status of the AR that we have. Which makes the ACR a much tougher sell.

There are also rumours that there will be an aluminum lower that allows you to change things like the pistol grip.

One of the biggest mistakes I see Bushmaster making is not releasing the parts necessary for drop in barrel changes.

I'm going to hang on for a while until the early issues like lack of gas components for quick change barrels is fixed but eventually I suspect one of these will end up in my safe.

They are certainly different markets. I would actually prefer the polymer lower over an aluminum one, but this may also be so that it can accommodate different stocks and other AR components (as well as possibly reduce reliance on Magpul).

From what I've heard Bushmaster will finally make the barrels and/or components available in 2012. Whether that materializes is anyone's guess...

Nice gun ####. Note at 1:14 butt stock is being caressed by a female customer. Very nice. :D

I actually like the look of the non enhanced front guard better. The enhanced looks a bit too short, and seems to leave the gas piston system a bit more exposed than the regular one. Either that or its a result from the caressing of the stock. I'm not sure. :D

I do as well; it's closer to the original Magpul Masada. On a short 12.5" barrel I suspect the enhanced tri-rail would look better, but on the factory (and especially the NR 18.7") I think the polymer hand guard will look better. All-in-all, the ACR still ended up really close to the Masada.

I've seen pictures of the aluminum lower and wondered why they didn't release it with that standard. Perhaps a cost issue or something. I certainly liked the idea of it.

OK you guys have probably seen this. But its so f****** funny it deserves a repeat after greentips comments... :D

Hope this works, I've never uploaded a video before.

Crap! Anybody know how to fix this?

HAHAHA...I literally almost pissed myself

Sweet, tracking number from Questar received! If all goes according to plan, I'll strap my spare Eotech 512 on and haul 'er up to the range on Sunday the 28th. Which reminds me, need to buy more ammo...
