ACR Media and Info Thread

Just got done ordering my acr and barrel from Herron arms. It's going to take about a month to get it all. I'm not very patient but I guess it gives me time to figure out what I want for accesories. This is my first "black rifle" and I'm pretty excited to get it. Can anyone suggest a good quick release mount and scope? I was thinking maybe an aim point for plinking and a good quality variable power scope for hunting and load development. Also what would be a good muzzle brake and flash hider? And last question, will a geiselle 3 gun trigger or any other ar trigger drop right in the acr?

I use the Burris PEPR QD mounts on most of my rifles.
I went with a 4 prong flash hider on mine. Recoil on the ACR is pretty much non existent.
I think the AR triggers drop into the trigger housing but you have to use the factory ACR hammer. I have the Geissele super ACR trigger in mine but it came with the rifle (I bought mine used).

After exchanging e-mails with Ian, I am considering having Herron supply me with a new ACR with a premium non restricted barrel installed. The only difference, is that I wouldn't bother with a brake or a flash hider.

I can't stand the top rail on the PEPR, Weaver makes a similar mount without the top rail for half the price.

They come with both a top rail or smooth top clamps. I use the smooth ones and the railed ones sit in the parts box.
Is the Weaver one quick detach? Does it hold zero when you take it off and put it back on? I remove mine all the time and put on my EoTech then swap back. Never have to adjust the turrets when I swap.

Any ar trigger group will drop in. You just have to bend one of the springs slightly to match the stock profile. The s3g is an awesome trigger but a ssae is probably better suited to an acr with modified optics. I have both...s3g in 10.5 ar and ssae jn acr.

I use an acog ta33 for plinking, and a vortex 2.5-10x32 ffp for hunting.
The surefire is my favourite brake, it's the most effective for its size.
The aac blackout is my preferred flash hider.
Larue or bobro for scope mounts.
The adm's are difficult to remove, and the burris are heavy.

The s3g isn't ideal for precision shooting, but the ssa-e isn't great for speed shooting (compared to a timney or s3g). The geissele high speed dmr works pretty good for both though.

I have been able to shoot my Super-ACR (which is just an SSA trigger) basically as fast as needed. Split time down to 0.11 all inside the A-Zone.

I didn't mean it wasn't possible to shoot fast, what I meant is that there are better triggers for shooting fast. And better triggers for shooting precisely. The ssa-e is a jack of all trades, king of none type of trigger. The high speed dmr is better at both precision and speed. Not a big deal if you've already got an ssa-e, but if you're starting from scratch, why not go for the best available option ?

Had the ACR out the other day with the 300BLK barrel and with the gas port opened up to 0.125 inch it cycles my supersonic and subsonic loads perfectly.

As you can see it did quite well with one of my loads. I just loaded up 5 of each of 12.3, 12.4, and 12.5 gr of A1680 under Hornady 208gr BTHP and took a box of my 19.4gr of H110 under 110gr V-max.
The 110gr didn't group as well but they cycled well. I'll have to do a little load tweaking to get them to tighten up.

I e-mailed Bushmaster, and asked for an ETA on the ACR DMR, and was told, that at this time, they have no ETA. Obviously, the distributor, and the stores estimates of delivery, are very much in error. Based on that information, I purchased a used ACR from the EE, and I will be having Herron Arms install a barrel that will render the rifle non restricted. As well, the rifle that I purchased has the plastic hand guards that I prefer, so by the time that I add a match trigger, the price won't be a great deal more, and I will have a better quality barrel.

Nice, Ian is probably the best option at the moment for ACR custom work.

I was going to buy of the EE but after messaging a few people for more details and recieving no reply I orderd new.

I traded PMs with a few people, and after eliminating people with virtually no trader rating, and rifles that were missing parts, I found what appeared to be an unaltered, and non abused rifle, from a trader with a solid trader rating. The rifle has the fixed stock, and the plastic hand guard, both of which I prefer, and the price was low enough, that I will be at about $3000 all in, with the Herron installed barrel. I will also install the extended butt plate, which is cheap, and if I don't like the trigger, I will upgrade that as well.

Well done :)
Be sure to post some pics when you get it back from Ian.

I want one of these bad

There are a couple on the EE now.
I was quoted $2500 for a new one in Edmonton just before I bought my used one for $2200. I now have around $3500 into it with 3 non restricted caliber conversions.

What's stopping you from owning one?
Buy one and then show us pictures :)
