ACR Media and Info Thread

Hi guys was in talk with a friend who own ACR, I am thinking about buying it but 3.5k is a huge bill for me. Is it worth the money? Is this ACR (the ###y mofo) in dange of the potential FRT change?

I had one and sold it due to it becoming an orphan gun when it was discontinued. Not being able to source spare parts is not fun. It was an accurate and reliable rifle. I found it a little tip heavy due to the barrel locking mechanism.

every gun is in danger of FRT changes, full stop. pistol grip magazine fed semi auto, even more so. anyone that says otherwise is wrong. the ACR is an accurate rifle, mine has been 100% reliable for thousands of rounds. i like the ar like controls. the charging handle is in a nice spot unless you run lasers. the major downside other than the ban risk is that its a dead in the water platform with bushmaster shuttered and now remington the parent company following suit, so factory replacment parts will get harder and harder to find over the years. and considering one of the major reasons the platform never really took off was because of a lack of parts support, that would indicate you wont be in for a good time if you need a new bolt head in a year.

i LOVE my acr but with how the company and support is now i wouldn't do it.

ACR - one of my all-time favorite rifles. Ergonomics are perfect. Reliability was perfect. Sold mine when they stopped producing them though. Probably not the best to buy a pricey gun with no parts availability.

Stock

Is there many options for the stock you know of? I’ve been thinking of picking one up but I don’t like the market stock.

Anyone know of what the common wear parts are that need to be replaced on the ACR, I have a spare firing pin and some odd springs but seeing as I just learned of its discontinuation I'd like to try and stock up on whatever could give out on me.

I think a lot of folks are overreacting about the availability of parts, Templar Precision is already starting production on reproduction bolts and bolt carrier groups in addition to making their custom lowers, charging handles, and other gas system components. Truth be told we're very close to having the most support for the ACR platformer we've ever seen.

If you wanted any spare parts from Bushmaster, you were dreaming. Would take months to years to get anything.
Aftermarket support is picking up, and with many gun parts and accessories moving off ITAR to department of Commerce, it’ll be easy to get them into Canada.

Great platform, no reason to worry about parts failure or lack of support in my opinion.
Also, I don’t think Remington is going to do nothing with those ACR patents. They'll be sold or moved to another one of their companies.

Ok glad to hear that, rifle has been fantastic for me aside from a takedown pin needing to be replaced. I have 1000 to 1500 rounds through it without a single failure. Panicked a bit when I seen all the talk but I should have known better!

I was about to comment to say that the ACR just uses the same bolt as an AR, but that’s definitely not the case after a quick Google search. I must be thinking of another compatible part. Learned something new today!

Given the lack of company support, does anyone anticipate Canadian variants or even manufacture?
Any non-AR is a good bet these days.

Patent expires in like 2yrs. Yes I'm counting the days haha

Have you guys run any issues with the newer Remington productions models? MAC had issues with the barrel loosening up after a few mags. Really interested in getting one of these.

No issues. You just need to make sure the barrel nut is very tight. I give it a tap with a brass hammer i have just to be sure. I'm able to hit a 3" target at 400m repeatability so its safe to say the gun is accurate if setup properly. The DMR barrels are very accurate from my experience with these. The one I have setup for the range is a sub MOA gun with me shooting it and I'm not a pro. YMMV and I'm sure there are some QA issues as they moved manufacturing around.
