Acr parts

Yeah really interested!
And Darren try asking Rainier if they would make us "mountain" 18.5" and 12.5" ACR barrels ;)

Why chrome?
My PWS AR has an Isonite coated bore and they (PWS) tell me it is good for a minimum of 30000 rounds and that 12 inch barrel is very accurate.
I think these new coated rather than chrome lined barrels are very durable and accurate.
Change is good :p

I'd love one of Rainier Arms spiral fluted barrels for my ACR.

Why would I not want a double chrome lined "machinegun barrel" for my ACR?
nothing against the other finish really, but I doubt anything else is as durable and that's why they use it on machineguns still.
personal choice I know, but that would be mine.

im getting a 18" mountain bbl for my next AR build too once (if) OST brings them in...

You'll not find a custom barrel that's chrome lined.
Smiths just aren't set up for that, nor do they need to be.
I'll take a bare stainless any day over chrome lined. Mostly for accuracy.
Green mountain blanks are cheap, they are not krieger's... I certainly wouldn't pass up any of the other quality ar barrels for a green mountain. A noveske or the like will certainly be more accurate.

Chrome is nice for full auto but I just don't understand why anyone would need a barrel durable enough to withstand spraying on full auto like a SAW when a new non chrome lined barrel will last just as long on semi auto and be more accurate over it's lifetime.
If we had the fun switch I would have a hard time arguing your points but we will never get one that hot on semi auto and the nitriding is supposed to be a harder finish than chrome.

Personally from talking with one of the gunsmiths in the area stainless is my first choice but if that isn't available I would go with a nitrided barrel over a chrome lined.
When I talked to PWS I was told that because of their isonite coating (which I think is just their brand of nitriding) there is no barrel break in and that I should expect to get approx 30000 rounds of life before the accuracy starts to degrade. Considering that they build full auto rifles I am expecting to be able to go well beyond 30000 if I could ever afford that much ammo. I am at about 4000 through it now and it's very accurate for a piston driven AR.

Valid points but I'd sacrifice accuracy over durability myself, and the way I see it a barrel that can withstand full auto longer should translate to semi auto even longer. Would I personally out shoot either one? Probably not, but which one would outlast in any given situation? I think the machine gun barrel... But don't mind me I'm a crazy redneck, and that wasn't the point of this thread anyway.

LOL, We can't all be crazy rednecks.

Right now I would just take any decent barrel that will make my ACR non restricted for a decent price.

That likely would have meant waiting for the 2014 import of the NR version...or you did the right thing because Bushmaster may never ship any 18.6" barrelled rifles or parts.

I just want a NR ACR in 450 bushmaster without having to buy a restricted rifle to start with. Dlask's price installed and re registered is the best deal going right now from my research but the wrong caliber for me and still requires me to purchase a restricted:(

I got nothing but time, so I will just sit and wait till someone either offers up already converted ACR's at a good price or the new ones are released

Probably doesn't need it but it would be nice to have the second setting be just a little useful. My Swiss Arms (sold it) had two settings, first setting was for all ammo and the second setting was for if your rifle was dirty and would give it extra gas. I never used position 2 but it at least had a function we could relate to needing some day here in Canada where we can't have a suppressor.

I also like to be able to tune the gas system a little if it's available to give the rifle as little gas as possible while still being reliable which is easier on the rifle and makes it smoother shooting.

Either way, I'm sure I will like it and at least this way we never need to mess with it.

Does the S position cut off all gas or just reduce it to virtually nothing? We could re-name it Single instead of Suppressed ;)

Suppressed setting isnt single shot. It still cycles like a semi. Just in Unsuppressed the brass flies forward at 2oclock and on Suppressed they come rocketing out at 4-5oclock. Or vise versa. Been awhile since I've shot it

That's not what I heard from my local dealer.

What is the parent case for 450 Bushmaster?
Does it use 223 bolt? I read somewhere that you need to have the bolt face enlarged to almost 308 size making it weak because there isn't much material left after the job.

I'll stick with 300BLK for now and consider 450 once I know more about it. I do like the idea of a 45 cal slugger that would essentially let me sell my 45/70. That one will be hard to part with though.

email from bushmaster to my local dealer, rifles have already been ordered and that is when they ship if there is no US panic buying again, dealers were never able to order the rifles before even though the parts and rifles have been listed and promised for years so it looks promising. If for whatever reason it isn't till fall I will still wait unless prices drop or someone is willing to buy the restricted barrel to offset my costs of the conversion, once the NR version comes out from bushmaster, anyone with a conversion just took an instant loss.

there are already 7.62x39 bolts and kits being sold in the USA for the ACR, that is the bolt you use, you do not re work a 223 bolt.
