Act of Valor

Sweet baby Jeebus the armchair quarterbacks are out in force tonight. It is a movie guys, mistakes included it was a fun flick. Hot chicks, guns, and bad guys getting blowed the f**k up, a great way to spend a Saturday night and that's all. I swear to god it's like a Star Trek convention around here sometimes...

no kidding, the wife and i watched it last night. We both thought it was good.

the red laser thing is just for show so the civies dont go * dont they have lasers?*
if your military there is alot of those little detail... like when they ask stupid question during brefings...

watched last night. the action was really good, but everything in between was pretty lame, bad dialogue, poorly acted, etc

in some parts it did feel like an army recruitment video haha

How long exactly have you been in the service? I've been told that verbatim from several people in the Canadian forces, including a military instructor and 2 guys that have deployed to Afghanistan.

This isn't some john Wayne movie where you go in guns blazing killing everything you see. If you shoot an unarmed civilian, you ARE getting charged, end of story. And that includes a machine gunner too, but we still have the requirement for an automatic rifleman to provide support and cover. They are NOT the guys going in and doing room clearing.

But sure, keep on believing our soldiers are going in and mowing down everything with full auto Laugh2

I have no idea what you going on about... I don't care how many people you know in the CF what you said is white wash. If I told you I post postal clerk with thirty years in would my opinion matter more?

Can you tell me a time in the CF where you weren't responsible for every round you fired? Even in the heat of battle. Not going to happen, you always are. That's my only point.

It comes from the understanding that with a lot less training you have a more accurate and affective wpn in SA. Hence the change in tactics.

I have a friend who is lieutenant colonel in the secret squirrel airborne and he told me that is exactly how s**t goes down in the sand box brother! We lost a lot of good men..er squirrels out there.

Every time we argue about THE MOVIE Act of Valor the terrorists win!

I loved the movie. Although I found the ending "frag" scene to be pretty cliche. But still.....loved it.

You know that is a true story right? A seal named Mike Monsoor jumped on a grenade and saved the rest of his team during house to house fightig in Fallujah. Chris Kyle talks about it in his book American Sniper.

Key portions of that movie are based on real acts of valor by seals. The chief who got riddled with bullets is also a real story. The guy was shot 27 times and lived to tell about it.

meh, I liked the movie. There hasn't been a good one out for a long time. One that had DoD cooperation...

Besides the fact that a few frogger's were asked about input to the movie most people will find there life extremely hard and boring except for the few hours when they are in the thick of it.
Although I really liked how they made sure that the burial scene was authentic with the M14's doing the 21 gun salute.

Exactly, it is a drama based on actual events. Yes they play it up for effect but it was accurate, and a good flick.

Also try googling names of the fallen listed during the closing credits, that will make it very real very fast for all the armchair generals that critize small functional mistakes.

It was an excellent movie.
So many people criticizing the fighting scenes. Go tell them they did it wrong in the film and see what they have to say.
Doesn't matter, they been there and done that and it was nice for us to get a glimpse of it, even if the 'acting' wasn't the greatest.

Interesting to know the story is true. The "Act of Valor" was real. As for tactics/weapons one expects the military would not allow the best to leak out.

Being shot 27 times and lived, the enemy/terrorist needs better weapons.
