Had a yen for a new coyote rifle ,so I purchased a Kreiger SS barrel from Adams Lake Barrels, Chase BC, in early spring of 2011. After email correspondance, sent Ian Hames a cheque for $440.00 cdn. Cashed April 21,2011. After cashing my cheque, he is unreachable. Doesn't answer phone messages or emails. Talked to Kreiger barrels, and they said they haven't had contact with Ian in over 6 months. My barrels was done months ago,and was put into general inventory account non payment by Adams Lake Barrels. Seems like he never had any intention of keeping his end of the deal. Just took my money and ran.
Anybody else get the same treatment?

I have met Ian and thought him to be a good guy and I must say that I had hoped we wouldn't read of a situation like the OP's as this is a sad but, perhaps, not so surprising development. Taking money under such circumstances has the appearance of, and may well amount to, fraud. I suggest the OP make a report to the nearest RCMP detatchment and ask that they investigate the matter.

more info

I do not want to start a firestorm but 3 people from down east have the same experience, I was called by a dealer last night and asked if there were any solutions, I suggested a trip to the RCMP, but if someone starts the ball rolling, then only 1 detachment can investigate the allegations of commercial activity (fraudulent type dealings)
one of the folks I think sent the money in full in february,

sad but maybe this will spark some much needed communication,

my take is this affects the new so-called dealers trying to provide product, how can we be comfortable sending money when this taste is still in one's mouth?

no comment on the individual or his personality or his contribution in the past, this is now serious

Good lesson to be learned here. If a business demands full payment upfront for something you're going to have to wait a long time for, they're not financially solvent enough to be in business. If they already got your money, there's little to no incentive to make sure the product gets delivered in a timely fashion. They can spout off all the BS excuses and you've got little choice but to take it at that point.

When I hear stories like this, brick & mortar companies look better and better.

Ok

OK to the original poster,

please contact Kamloops RCMP, get a file started ,then post on the fraud section and await others to follow, there have been requests to me about this thread and others and folks are waiting for someone to poop or get off the pot , so as to speak,

it would seem that is you have a cancelled cheque and info that kreiger barrels has not had communication NOW IS THE TIME, or do not complain anymore, this has gone on long enough and the moderators will just start to delete threads,

your information is quite helpful to others, but again, now is the time, apparently he will just ignore everyone, sad but true, so get a move on, or move over and order from someone else,

Jefferson

ps the cheque may have been casehed and if no order was placed that is criminal, is it not? (just trying to make sure I do not get a bunch of e-mails from his friends, as I shot in Kamloops and saw him at the range but he did not stay for any length of time, again, I wish this was not happening, but to the folks who give out excuses, just send me the money that was lost and then see how you feel, theft is theft, personal problems, we have them all and some of us have terminal diseases and still do not steal money

Who the fack are you to tell the OP to stop complaining and to s**t or get off the pot? He's made (1) comment on this situation since he started the thread. It's not like the guys creating a spectacle about the situation.

Are you really in a position to say wether or not the mods will delete threads on the subject? If anything they owe the community just the opposite. Afterall, it was this site who accepted advertising revenue from this dealer and it has a moral obligation to its membership to let these topic threads continue for informational purposes.

You are right though in saying that the OP and others who have been potentially defrauded should contact RCMP over the matter. This situation with Adams Lake is getting messier by the day.

A comment like this casts a nasty shadow on the many dealers on this forum that bust their butts everyday to deliver EVERYTHING they promise and you paid for.

If you don't trust the dealer or like their business policies, don't do business with them. To suggest that these companies have any issues with delivering when you have not experienced any problem is slanderous don't you think?

Have any issue getting your products ontime and as ordered from me? Didn't you pay upfront?

And you tell me a bricks and mortar companies that stocks Krieger barrels?

Anyone who has done business with me on barrels knows, money upfront. NO ifs, ands or butts - there is another side to this discussion.

Has anyone not received their product? Not that I am aware of.

Have there been unfortunate delays or screw ups? You bet but every order has been taken care to the best of my ability and will continue to have that service as long as I am at the helm of MP.

sorry for the rant - has nothing to do with the OP - but I know alot of dealers that go above and beyond to make customers happy even when the customers are just WRONG.

or when Can posts decides to deliver to someone somewhere Canada and call the parcel successfully delivered.

I feel for the OP and I hope that his situation does find a happy resolution.

Rant off...

Jerry,

This wasn't directed towards you at all. You've got a great reputation here on CGN and I've never heard one bad complaint regarding you. When I wrote that, I didn't even think of your business. Sorry, if you feel slighted. I'd certainly have no problem buying anything from you again, as I'm sure many of your valued customers would as well.

Having said that, you can't dispute that there's a certain leap of faith that's involved here by the customer. They likely don't know you personally and the only thing they can go by is what they see online. It's the customer who is completely vulnerable in these situations - not the merchant who has the money upfront. That doesn't necessarily mean that the merchant is taking advantage of the customer.

Sure, sometimes customers are wrong and you have to deal with the old addage, "The customer is always right.". Welcome to the wonderful world of retail.

When I ordered my Savage from Ellwoods (pretty established business) I had to wait upwards of 3 months after full payment for my rifle to be delivered.

When I order hundreads of dollars of equipment/components from Mystic, I will usually wait about 1 month before recieving what I've ordered because of how much rare and expensive stuff I want that they've got to order and recieve in whatever the next shipment is.

It doesn't take a business degree to understand why a dealer needs full payment before making a special order (special orders making up about 90% of what these dealers do). Sure, better customer service would be to take a deposit but that's not how they work and in the end it doens't matter.

This has been posted on here before.... Ian is going through a very rough time right now... he has closed up shop and continues to send out barrels.... I know it sucks but you will get your barrel from what I am told.... people continue to receive barrels from him.... you can go to the fuzz but it will likely only slow things down...

Was Adams Lake Barrels, now business policy.

Our policy is that there are almost no special orders as this is what we sell and stock. We take deposits, say $100-200 only on Nightfore scopes as there are so many models and long lead times, so a commitment is required.

If we get into the action and barrel business, we'll proceed in the same manner, but will actually stock product.

At least Robertson Composites returned deposits.

Regards,

Peter

I`ve never been asked by any dealer to put up more than a 30% deposit on a special order. Epps requires a 30% deposit on special orders, not 100%. I have a business degree and will not deal with any business that requires 100% for an item that he doesn`t have in stock. Because of this I don`t see myself being taken advantage of from such scams like this dealer has pulled. I strongly encourage the op to file a complaint with the rcmp. I`m also stunned how so many members are seeming to stand behind this guy.

You won't find many gunbuilders that will build a custom rifle with 30% down.

It takes a long time to get Kreiger to build and then there's the border.

Took me almost a year to get my barrel from Adam Lake.

I've always done and enjoy business where if it's a non stocked/special order item the buyer puts something down agreed upon by the two parties. This binds the deal and both are not out the full amount should problems arise. I've been burned in the past where I had to recover my losses.
That being said, no dealer or anyone has screwed me here yet even with full payment up front.
