Hi guys,

I've inherited a very different kind of rifle than I'm familiar with - a CO2 .22 cal bolt action rifle from Armscor Philippines. It's the AR-Executive on this website.

The problem I have is... the charging tank that came with it is not sized for anything we have for refills here in Canada, and besides, no reputable company will charge it because the canister itself has no labels, pressure ratings or certification.

Screw thread dimension of the charging valve is 1/8"-27TPI (NPT, taper), 0.300"/0.320" depth. My plan is to fabricate an adapter for it so that I can use off-the-shelf paintball CO2 canisters, which as far as I know are 5/8"-18UNF, CGA320 thread. I've got access to milling tools, high pressure pneumatic hose and any tap/die imaginable, but I'm not familiar with air rifles.

Would any of you have tips or experience in this field?

You should ask this question on the canadian airgun forum, there are alot more tuners and builders there. Of course you may have to sift through a lot of well intentioned responses but it can be fun.

Take a look at the adapters available on the Mac1 Airguns site.

Then get thee unto ye olde magazine store, and pick up one of the paintball magazines, check out the adverts for plumbing and hardware therein. Lots of CO2 tank fittings, with and without check valves and quick disconnect fittings.

Or you can grab a 20oz or larger tank, and use that to fill your smaller one.

Nothing too serious as far as pressures on tap for CO2. Unless you overfill and then allow it to heat up...then bad things could happen.

But for the most part, other than the fitting at the bottle, everything you are looking for should be available mail order, if you don't have a decent stocked outfit that deals with paintball locally.

I have made a fair few bulk adapters to hang a CO2 bottle under a Crosman Mk1 or 2. They were not rocket science by any means. I made mine of brass, with a steel press-fit insert for opening the valve on the paintball bottle.

Does you bottle look like a sausage with a screw fitting on it? Sorta like a garden tap handle, with the pipe thread fitting through it? If so, it probably is along the same lines as the old style Crosman bulk bottles. The Crosman bottles can be fitted with two valves if you wish to, one end with the original valve (said by some to have it's origins as a life raft fill bottle, war surplus) and the other end fitted with a standard CO2 bottle valve per the paintball bottles.Makes them easy to fill.

Oh yeah. Use brass for your male pipe thread. Itll reduce the wear on the treads of the female side (which are harder to replace).

Cheers
Trev
