I have an older (1975) Beretta O/U (BL2) with 30" barrels and fixed chokes (mod & full). It's nearly useless to me in this configuration. I'd prefer shorter barrels and more open chokes. Aside from the extra versatility of multiple choke options that come with screw-in chokes (not a big deal to me, as I typically put in a couple of the more open tubes and leave them forever), what are the advantages of taking a couple inches off and tapping the barrels for screw-in chokes as opposed to having the chokes of both barrels opened up a bit? Relative cost of each procedure? I suppose there's the option of simply lopping off a few inches and having cylinder bores, but I would like a bit more reach in at least one of the barrels. Thoughts?
