Hi I am new to the forum and I apologize if this topic has been posted before.

I am ,looking for a quality AR15 to start with. I am looking to spend $1000-1500.00. Can anyone recommend something in that price range and let me know where in Canada I could buy it. I live in Alberta.

I have done a lot of searching and have narrowed my entry choices to the Bushmaster or Stag. Are these good choices?

I probably won't do a lot of modifications so something great out of the box is what I am looking for. I also want it to have the classic AR look.

Any direction would be greatly appreciated.:)

Lots of good options in that price range, and you can't really go wrong for your first AR anyway.

There will be more down the road and you can get pickier on features as you get use to the AR platform.

Spend an extra $200 and get a DD rifle, the stag is good too as for the Bushmaster that is a bit of gamble at times....

Who sells the windham and DD in Canada? Also, can I replace the front grip on the DD for a more classic AR look?

Do you mean the rail system? So you want the traditional M4 hand guards?

One shot Tactical will get you the DD.

My advice is go modern you will be using this rifle not putting it on the wall as a collectors item.

Grab a Stag from ArmsEast. Several models are out of stock but the 2R LE Patrol Carbine appears to be in stock and it's in your price range. Default pricing for this model is with NO rear sight. Keep that in mind when comparing with other makes and/or models.

oh man, i do't think i am handy enough to build my own yet. I found a Stag Arms - AEI Model 2R LE Patrol Carbine and a Bushmaster XM-15 E2S. of those two which one would you recommend?

Which Windham rifle would you recommend?

Stag has a decent reputation up here......

As for Windhham they appear to make a decent Tier 3 commercial AR...Remember 1/9 twist on the barrel so if you ever get any tracers to shoot they won't really cycle and getting the more heavier loads above 62gr the bullet will be less stable and will effect accuracy. But most people only shoot 55gr to 62 anyways...

But for the money there is a Noveske upper on EE for 1350, take a risk and get one of those Aero Precision lowers(LANZ-shooting supplies) for $199 and you would be set. Keep in mind that would not be the old school traditional AR though. I would go a for a work gun first though.

I really like the traditional look. I will definitely be using it and not hanging it on the wall.

I read somewhere that the 1/7 twist was what you wanted but that might be old advice. Is the stag a tier 1,2, or 3?

If shooting heavier loads upwards of 62gr and up, yeah get 1/7.....As for Tier System Blaxsun created our very own Canadian version...........so use the search function and it should come up. We even added Tier zero as well, recommended by yours truly...

I am leaning that way, thank you for your advice. I appreciate it. Now do you know -can I buy a restricted rifle from a different province or should I try to get a gun store in Alberta to order one in?
Phone ArmsEast tomorrow or order it online from them right now. I ordered a 2TR a few weeks ago and now it has been approved and Canada Post has it. You might be better served by calling them and talking to them about rear sight options to suit you. All I ever hear is good things about Arms East. :)
