Advice on first AR purchase

There is little to no benefit to a piston AR. Sure it runs cleaner but AR's will run with 1000's of rounds in between cleaning as long as they are lubed.

I'd suggest Stag - lifetime warranty is a big plus when it's handled in Canada, also the way ArmsEast sells them, they're properly tested and assembled (gas keys staked properly, HP tested, and shot peened BCG's etc).

Yes , this Core15 originally created for 5.56 ammo . I put this front sight from my old RRA Ar15 . The Wanwtalls actually have same model equipped with folded Magpul sights but for much more money or you can get them separately and safe a bit..

can i ask where you bought it? why the two over the 8? Not a fan of the piston?
ArmsEast (CGN sponsor)

This is my first AR-15 and I felt the regular gas version would be the best way to go. Learn the base style first, then try piston later on. Also, piston is more expensive so that extra money can go somewhere else.

I may build one down the road, but for now I just want an entry level one that is great right out of the box

That's what I'm doing. Not getting into a brand war here, but by now you've probably read a few threads questioning the quality of a few brands. You don't read those controversial threads about a Stag or the service at Arms East. Sure, it's a little more expensive than some other brands, but you know what you're buying. Take care of the rifle and when you go to sell it down the road, people will know exactly what they are getting. No question.

If the Stag model 2 is on your list, there are a couple version in stock right now. The base 2, and the 2T (tactical). I bought the 2T-R because I want to play a bit with this and see what kind of crap I want to hang off it. :) Maybe down the road I'll find I want a smooth handguard with only a couple short rail segments? Maybe I'll want a ton of junk? I don't know now, but I'll find out down the road. :)

If you decide to go with the Stag, call up the folks at Arms East and talk to them about what you prefer. Then they can guide you through some of the options.

Bought the Windham at Reliable Guns as well. At that price you can't go wrong. My first AR. :)

My friend was impressed by the fit and finish of the WW vs others at the price point.

Stag's lifetime warranty only works for the original buyer?
Arms East indicated this was in the process of changing and I found this on the net from Stag (dated Sept 19, 2012):

"Stag Arms, a leader in AR-15 manufacturing and production is updating their warranty on rifles which ship from their factory. The lifetime warranty for these rifles is now transferable from current to future owners. This change includes all new production and previously produced rifles. All other parts of our warranty will remain in effect.

If you are purchasing a used rifle please e-mail customerservice@stagarms.com with the serial number and we will be able to verify for you if it shipped from the factory as a complete rifle."

Not 100% sure if it applies to Canada, but I have no reason to think it wouldn't. Great rifle and I really like how Stag is stepping up and moving to a transferrable lifetime warranty.

You can get a colt le6920 from irunguns. They are a site sponsor.
i considered this, but ive noticed they only import 16" barreled versions. suits some, but i wanted a 10.5- 14.5 at the most for now...next one im going with a longer barrel.
amazing prices though.

same problem for me... they were all 16" if they had anything else i would have gone for it.
also, the gas block i think has a rail on it, and i wanted a full lenght quad rail... but ive heard windham make great rifles... just not what i wanted for my first rifle.
personally...i got a NEA. it should be shipped to me this week. (i ordered 7 weeks ago) so either they only make 1 rifle a day or there actually selling a lot of them.
