Advice on the 260 remington

Yeah, I guess I am a bit :D Just had a guy on here mail me about a 6.5x284 barrel, he says probably have to take of about 3" might work since all I'll have to do is get it threaded for the 788 and maybe the chamber cut to 260?

If the shank of the barrel is long enough and thick enough, you cut off the threaded section, and rethread to fit the 788 receiver. Have the chamber cut to whatever short action 6.5 you like at that point. If the barrel has a 1-8 twist, so much the better, it will let you stabilise longer bullets. If you plan on using the 788 magazine, your coal is limited. I have owned quite a few of them, great rifles and accurate, but you have to work within their limitations. Incidentally, it will work in 6.5-284, but the magazine has to be modified and will become a two shot mag. I have a 6mm-284 built on a 788. Quite accurate. I dont find the 6.5-284 to be any harder on barrels than the 6.5-06 or 6.5 Rem Mag. Ballistically they are all almost identical. - dan
