Advice on the 260 remington

Here's another probably dumb idea...

Have a left hand cal gustaf in 300 win mag. Wonder what a 6.5-300 would be like??

Kinda like a 264 Win Mag.

That is about it. I have a .264. Wouldn't be my first choice.

There is also the 6.5 Remington Magnum.

If you want a 6.5 and wish to use the Savage 110 (which would work nicely with a pre-fit) consider the 6.5-06. Would fit the long action nicely.

I love the 6.5 RM, have shot alot of game with them, but I have enough brass for life... these days the 6.5 PRC would be the way to go.

Personally, I would just go with the 6.5-284, lots of quality Lapua brass available and factory loads if required. 6.5X55 AI is another option, but no point in that unless you happen to be inundated with X55 brass.

Yeah, you should try to avoid dumb ideas, they can cost you money. The Savage 110 is a long action, and the magazine is designed to feed long cartridges. You might want to try loading some 308 cartridges (or similar) into your Savage magazine and see if it works, before committing to the 260 Rem.
Your Carl Gustav has a magnum bolt face, so not suitable for a non magnum caliber. Finding a new LH
bolt - unlikely.

Remington 788's

Or you could just get a Rem 788 already factory chambered in 7mm-08. ;)

Have one, a carbine. When I'm just doing some walking around hunting, it is the first rifle I grab. Great little gun. Put a Canjar trigger on it, Leupold scope. Very nice little combo. - dan

Have had a 788 'carbine' [factory 18.5" barrel] in 7mm-08 for ~ 30 yrs. Came with a beat up factory wood stock which I switched out for a drop-in Ramline synthetic right after I acquired it. The older version Ramline that came with a Pachmayr decelerator. Topped it with an econo Tasco World Class Plus 2.5-10x40mm scope in Burris Z rings. Goofy thing, this rifle shoots tight groups just as it, so I've done nothing more to it. Other than shoot & enjoy it. The 788's are 'sleeper' rifles for sure!

Yup. Got mine in the 80's. Weirdly enough it is the rifle i usually grab when I'm going for a hike in the foothills. They just shoot so well. I did put a canjar set trigger in mine (just because I had one). You can easily modify the factory triggers to be adjustable though, I've done a few.- dan

Prob should have a 6.5 CM built - THERE's a LOT more Variety of GREAT factory ammo avail then there is for the Rem260 ! JMO and the Correct one too ! RJ

True, but as a hand loader, you have even more variety, and the ability to fine tune loads.

For this reason, I stick with my 6.5 x 55s; thanks to the Creed, I now have a wide selection of bullet weights and types to work with. If I had a .260 I would be happy to hand-load it too. Short action/Long action; makes no difference to either the paper target or the game. No advantage to short action.

YES my point too ! But the point i was making is he is NOT a hand loader so do NOT own a 6.5 x 55 swede or a rem 260 as they are hand loader cartridges . He needs a 6.5 CM that has Great factory loads ! RJ

I'm a handloader..

I guess why I'm more interested in the 260 vs the creedmoor is that I like different cartridges. 6.5 is fairly common. If I could find a left in 6.5x55 I'd get that in a heartbeat!
