Advice on the 260 remington

One of JC's barrels is about $450. Contoured, polished, stainless (no bluing required), ready to fit and crown.

JC? Is that Jury custom barrels? $450 sounds not bad.

Given the 788 magazine, the 6.5Creedmore might be a better choice.

What modifications would I have to do? Just screw on a 6.5 creed barrel?

HB/Varmint profile though. Not sure that was what the OP had in mind. I’ll agree it would probably shoot lights out though.

I wanted a hunting rifle. If I'm going to make a Heavy barrel/varmit gun it might be in 222 or something like that.

For the extra dough just get a barrel made and spun onto your 788.
I did that and have an awesomely accurate .260 REM.

Study the website carefully. 450$ gets you a contoured barrel blank. It would need to be threaded, chambered, and fitted to your action. This is an additional expense of several hundred dollars from someone that knows what they are doing.
Note that pre-fit barrels are offered at additional cost, however, not for the 788 action.

My 788 in .260 has a Jury barrel, and his pricing is about the same, keep in mind your gun smith charges on top of that to chamber, thread and crown the barrel.

Jury barrel, gun smithing, Timney trigger, custom MCRS stock build, and a EGW mount, plus Cerakoting, ran my build just under $2k, and that was almost 7 years ago

Wasn't I who suggested the Benchmark bbl on the EE, just reiterating that wasn’t the route you wanted in terms of bbl profile.

Or, I could buy a prefit barrel for my savage 110?? It's a 270 so similar to that 700.

The 260Rem is a great hunting and target cartridge. Light recoil, success in competitions, and great performance on big game, depending on your interests. Although my favourite "go-to" rifles for hunting are either 270 or 7mm, I have used a Rem700 Titanium in 260Rem to knock down elk and on a different platform, crank out a beauty grouping at 1000 metres.

I love my 260 Remington mine shoots like a laser and I wouldn’t hesitate to shoot a moose with it

I also have a 260 Remington on a 700 action.
It drives 130 grain Accubonds in to .6 moa consistently.
I shot one group at 500M that was a eye-catching 2.88"
I have several 6.5mm rifles, and the 260 is a good one.

Back in the day, surplus Mausers were the go-to; built a few on surplus Mauser actions; often starting with a beat up one bought for about $50 bucks; there were lots of triggers and accessories available, and premium barrel blanks were less than $75.00. and the US dollar was worth less than ours; and the border was open to gun stuff of all kinds.
