Looking to buy a 9mm that is good for a left handed person. Was thinking of a SW M&P. Any other suggestions?

Glock:)
Can you get to a range that their are people there on a regular basis?
If so ask a few people if you can try some of their guns.99% of the time they will be more than glad to let you try.

Do not get the M&P, there have been many problems with strikers. Go with the Glock 17. Its a great pistol, light, and easy to strip. There are also a ton of accessories for it on the market.

There has been exactly one problem reported with strikers, that is: that the first production run strikers can break, they have been redesigned since that run. What you are saying is the same as saying, don't buy a Glock there have been many problems with trigger return springs breaking. It's true I had one break. (It was in 1989, I think, when you could buy a 17 or a 17L and that was it. I knew a couple of other guys had it happen too). The Glock is a great pistol, I've put 10,000+ rounds through them, but after 7,000 failure free rounds I'd say the M&P is pretty great too. So basically go FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) someone else.
Rant Off

I have SW M&P and I'd rate it above the Glock. Another gun to consider is Walter P99, HK, Springfield XDM, Styer M1A.

Everybody is different, but Glock makes the same grip, while you can adjust one on SW. Small point, but it's a start to a big picture.

My brother is a lefty, he likes the Beretta 92's, Glocks and Sig Saurs better than my Colt 1911's or Browning Hi-Powers.

He finds that those guns throw brass higher and more in a verticle fashioned arc, less annoying and distracting for him.

That being said, all of those pistols he likes have an open top ejection to them-would guess that any gun with a similar style port/open top would behave the same?

Appearance has no effect on performance and should be the last thing considered if at all. Posers are concerned with looks.

You must have screwed your fare share of uglies in your lifetime then. I never said looks were the only thing to consider, but seriously, put a Glock next to a M&P and .......oh never mind. I'm a poser cause I said Glocks are ugly.

How about that Glock trigger pull??

The M&P is nothing more than S&W's second attempt at copying a Glock. Fair enough. The visual similarities are uncanny. As for the trigger pull, there's nothing wrong with stock Glocks. As is usually the issue, its the operator that sucks. Its called take up the slack, break the shot, work the reset. If I've lost you its time for some professional training.

ETA: With regards to women. Again, ones looks does not determine ones skills.

I shoot my buddies Glock just fine....the trigger does feel like I'm bringing it home from Montana though. Glad to have a conversation with a self appointed expert......the world is a better place because of you.:bigHug:

If you can run a Glock just fine and thousands of others can where's the issue? Can you dispute what I've posted or not?

Let me dumb it down for you a bit.

Normal trigger we'll say is like good ###.

Glock trigger is like ### with a condom.

Both options work, but one is better.

What would you like me to dispute? I'm not playing expert here.....

I never said I was an expert either. I still don't see the issue. A stock Glock trigger is more than capable of providing accurate shots. So what would the advantage be to a "better" trigger? What would constitute a "better" trigger?

ETA: I apologize to the OP. As for lefty friendly pistols. Most are quite easy to operate for a lefty. Some allow you to move the mag release to the other side.
