Hey everyone I am slightly lost I want to purchase a semi auto black or green rifle non restricted it will be a daily shooter on our ranch where we have serious issues with coyote and gopher's we are repopulating the 600+ acres with cattle and sheep , I was just going to go with a cz 858 , I used to love the ar 15 years ago , so I learned about the ar 180 b , I can not find one than the robinson arms came up now the hk sl8 ? or a swiss arms classic lol .
I really would rather buy a used rifle so I don't feel so bad when it gets USED lol advise please .
BWR:d:

what kind of range will you be shooting at ? Any plans to use optics ? The Swiss Arms is superb, even with the just the (awesome) diopter sights. The XCR and SL8 would also serve you well. Hell, you could even go for a Mini 14 Target. Prices (used) would range from $800ish for the Mini 14 Target to $2800 for the Swiss Arms.

We are after non restricted rifles only because we do not shoot at targets we shoot at coyote's and gopher's lol. Im leaning toward the hk because of price and reviews and the availability

Im putting together an XCR for exactly that purpose. Just waiting on the glass.

It really depends on your price range. To start id get a used mini14 or 30 and a decent optics/bases combo. Ammo is cheap and you can beat the f**k out of them and not feel bad.

How does this OD green rifle work for you a non-restricted Robinson Arms XCR-L in 223 the scope has now been replaced with a Leupold VX111 4.5-14X40mm 30mm tube/side focus/Varmint reticle.

I purchased it to hunt predators/gophers and I just ordered a 6.8spc conversion kit (barrel/bolt/mag) and I will have this same VX3 2.5-8X36 B&C reticle scope in the pic mounted when in 6.8 configuration I plan on using it for deer/bear hunting.

The mag is a 10 round RRA LAR 15 223 mag, yes sir that is right 10 round mag... :D

I'm not wise, just yappy, lol.

I would have recommended a .223 Ruger ranch rifle, but you said "black or green", so that would probably put you back in the AR180/XCR frame. You should try the EE and see what comes up.

Good luck.

Mini 14 if you are on a budget, SL8 would be good if you shoot supported (bipod / shooting sticks) Tavor for the best of both worlds if price is no object :)

depends on the range you plan on shooting at as well.

Great chance for you to own a Swiss Arms Classic Green. Business expense? Talk to your accountant, maybe the gun and ammo are a write off. Tell em its the "Green" version and you might even get a grant! "Could the government be that stupid"?

Seriously, IMHO price driven compromise in a working tool or a firearm leads to regret that lasts a lot longer than the initial wallet bite of a more worthy purchase.

If a PE 90 is indicated, save up and buy one. Its a truly great rifle if, that is, you are not a gopher. One warning though, the suckers aren't light .

I was really torn between the robinson the and hk sl8 but everyone seems to*praise the swiss arms classic more than any I found a nice unit here ! thanks

I never got the chance to handle a Swiss Arms rifle but I don't get the point about a .223 that weights 9 pounds naked.

With similar weight and bulk I carry my M1A with the extra power and range. Or with less weight and lenght, I carry my XCR with AR mags and caliber conversion. And these 2 proven alternatives are cheaper than the Swiss.

Please enlight me.

There are about a gagillion threads of XCR and PE90 owners having a pissing match. Look there for an answer on that little comparo.

Comparing the PE90 to the M1A, well, you can probably answer that question yourself whenever you decide to take your XCR into the field instead of the Springfield. Probably has to do with cheaper ammo (used to be, at least), ammo is lighter so you can carry more, less recoil, quieter, folding stock, accuracy, over-penetration or hide damage concerns, you name it. Everyone has preferences for what they have and what they take on any particular jaunt into the field.

Bushwacker's, I HONESTLY suggest you look into a VZ 858.

Don't get me wrong. I own a Robinson Arms XCR, and it's a great rifle. Decently accurate, VERY reliable, and non-restricted. BUT... For the price, I've come to believe that a VZ 858 is the BEST rifle available to Canadians. Cheap rifle, semi-auto, non-restricted, cheap ammo, accurate enough to obliterate coyotes, and reliable.

IIRC around $700 for the rifle and $250 for 1000 rds. =$950. Versus a $2500 rifle and $500 for 1000 rds. = $3000...

Listen mate... For wacking coyotes and gophers the 858 is a WICKED deal.
