hi im thinking of buying 5000 rnds of the AE 40 grn .22lr and i wanted to know if anyone has used this stuff and how it has functioned in semi-autos? I just dont want to buy and be stuck with it if it is crap!

thanks

Great ammo. I use it for pistol silhouette in my Smith and Wesson Model 41, and my Smith and Wesson Model 46

Very consistant and quite accurate. 40gr seem to work very well in silhouette shooting. Gophers too!

Chrony'd 10 rounds from 5 different boxes and mean average FPS spread was only 26fps

MV was 1140 out of my 7" Model 46 +/- 19fps

MV was 1079 out of my 5" Model 41 +/- 26 fps

put 750 through the chiappa 1911-22 yesterday with out a hiccup......going to be stocking up myself.

I tried it in my ruger 1022 and it was terrible. It jammed and was very inaccurate. I bought a bunch of different ammo to try out to see what the rifle liked.

This was from 50 yards away. The shots on the right are from some remington thunderbolts. The shots on the left are the AE. So I went back to the store and bought 2000 rounds of the remington. Hope this helps.

LOL, well some guns like it and some don't.
As with any rimfire ammo buy a box of fifty and if your happy with the results then start hoarding.

So far I have run through almost 12,000 AE 40gr LRN's

Out of 12K I had 15 rounds FTF that is unbelievable in terms or consistency in rimfire .22

I have ordered another 5000. :D

I try to buy it in 5K lots. That way I do not have to fiddle with my sights between bricks

In the last 5 or 6 years I am willing to bet I have doubled that between all the bolt action rifles. I remember boarding the Ferry with 25 000 rounds on the back seat of the truck under a blanket. I found it on sale for 15.99 a brick and couldn't resist. I know I have had to replenish the stockpile once since then, no FTF that I can recall, in anything I fired it in. I shot 10 shots under a dime at fifty yards with peep sights with a TOZ-12 I bought off the EE and that was it, had to buy all of it. I still have the target on the wall.

Wow! and I thought I was trigger happy!

In defence of the AE ammo, out of the 15 FTF I did not even check if it was a light strike or not

For the record, I have not had a FTF with this ammo in my CZ452V or 10/22

works good. I use Federal 719 for premium (pricey), but the 50 rd box of AE surprised me, price wise, and no jam wise.

I shoot alot of Lapua center X but in moderation, American Eagle 40 grain in excessieness. I never had much luck with the 38 grain hollow point stuff though.

One of the things that made me switch from the 38 gr HP AE's was they were all over the map velocity wise. Accuracy was... lacking because of it.

Then we worked on the 40gr ammo.... what a difference.

Near match quality for .04 cents a round.

Can't beat that with a stick!

one should not brag about cost or accuracy unless they have a good stash and they don't have to worry about finding out there is a shortage at the local stores, due to this I am no longer able to comment until after I go shopping this afternoon.

I WAS getting pretty damn decent accuracy out of my 10/22 with the factory targed barrel with the 40grainers. In the 1-1.5"@ 100y range. I have the occasional stovepipe or fte but it's so rare thay I couldn't care less, maybe the gun needs oil or cleaning.
The 38gr hollowpoints were all over the place, 3-6" kind of crap.
Remmington 555 box was all over the place, 3-4" with tons of light loads that little more than pffffts ( never happened while on a target, might have opened the group into feet). It also had quite a few ftf's and 1/40 or so fte's.
My friends 10/22 likes blazers. In mine they jam once in a while but are fairly reliable and print 3-4" groups @100.
My problem is I just can't bear to waste ammo, if I drop one on the ground I'll wipe it on my pants and load it up, even if I just end up firing it
into the ground. I think a little too much dirt has passed through the barrel as accuracy seems to be MIA. I rarely shoot at paper but last time out I did and it was horrible.

when you swap ammo like you swap socks you should consider cleaning the barrel really really good and then foul it again with what your going to be shooting.

I know some people never clean their .22 barrels and I know some that do. Seams to me that all the guys shooting the tight groups are the same guys cleaning their rifles.

Usually I get my rifle super dooper clean. Then load up 5 mags and go fouling.

After that, I do not clean until accuracy starts to slide. But every 250 rounds I take a dental pick and scrape the crud out of the chamber where the rim makes contact.
