What's the average thought, or general consensus? Every gun shoots differently, but given the choice, (at the same price) would you rather shoot American Eagle 38 gr. Plated HP (AE22) or Winchester 22LR333HP?

After attempting to shoot the Win333 last weekend i would say the AE no question... it seemed like about a 1/4 of the 333 i shot was deformed enough to no feed in my 10/22. The stuff that wouldn't feed was also difficult to extract from the magazine by hand.

333s work great in all my bolts and semis. Tried many other brands but found more problems with FTF and FTE. I will not use any others now . Why get rid of a good thing.

American Eagles no question.

Cleaner, better packaging (not really a big concern) and they shoot freakin awesome out of my cz 452 varmint.

That being said due to the old pricing of $10/333 I have shot quite a few boxes of the winchesters through my ruger 22/45. A few deformed rounds and some that I couldn't get to fire after 3 strikes, but overall they worked well for the price.

New twist to the debate. I can buy AE22s for 4.5¢/round ($1.79 for a 40 round box) vs. 3.8¢/round for 333s ($12.64 for the bulk box). So, are AE22s worth an almost 20% premium over 333s?

Depends what you want to use em for. If you want accurate ammo for punching paper I'd go for the AE's. If I was looking for something to burn through a few hundred in an hour or two with my pistol or busting gophers the 333's will do you just fine.

I have been buying up all the 333s that I can find over the last year and they feed flawlessly in my Advantage Arms .22 conversion and my 10/22. I think you may have got a bad batch. Maybe sooner or later I will find some bad ones in the 25,000 rounds I have hoarded but I haven't yet. ;)

$1.79 is cheap. The best price I've found this year was $2.29 at Peavey Mart. Crappy Tire has them on for $2.99 a box.

Yeah, I'm coming to that realization. I'm going to keep the retailer anonymous so you guys don't buy out my stash...:D

At a $1.79 I'd go buy every box they have then get the guy to check the back in case there is some more. FS

The 40-grain RN is not a fave, huh? :yingyang:

Nah... I'm OCD about lead...and copper looks cool...:p

Truth be known, I do want to avoid lead as much as I can. My 60 year old home has some lead pipes, and I shoot a lot of pellets in my basement. So, I figure wherever I can cut back on lead is a good thing.

Also, I can't find any American Eagle 40-grain RN that are less expensive than the AE22s.

The 38gr is a lead bullet with a copper wash. FS
