A buddy of mine just got an AG42 (not sure if it is a "B" or not yet.) handed down to him. It is in pretty rough shape, it obvoiusly has not been fired in a long while. The bore is hard to see clearly, it's got so much dust in it. Once we get it taken apart and soaked in some cleaner for a bit and get the bore cleaned out then I guess we'll know if it is worth restoring or not. It is the first time I have ever seen one and they are pretty cool. I did a search on the forums and came up with the standard info, being loud as old hell, action can take your finger off, sticky ammo, gas tube mods and such. But is there any other info we should know about this thing?

If it turns out that the bore is in good shape, we will probably refinish the stock, give it a light sanding and try and polish it up with some linseed oil or something. Can anyone recomend what type of oil to use for the stock? I'll post some pics when I get some

Thanks,

PA

M1 Thumb is NOTHING compared to what an AG42B can do to your fingers.

Again my favourite story. Salesman at Ye Olde Hunter told me of a guy who cranked back the bolt on a Steyr Solothurn 20mm (rack and pinion) and stuck his finger in the ejection port against the bolt face to see how strong the return spring was and PULLED THE TRIGGER.

The posts here pretty much tell it all. Although I have never had sticky problems with the modern ammunition from Winchester (the only manufacturer I could find swede from here.)

Thanks for the replies. Any sugguestions on what oil to use on the stock? Maybe it would be better if I posted that in the gunsmithing forum. Also looking for any leads on a Mag for it. Any sugguestions?
