camerl2009, lemme give you a piece of advice:

Drop your hobby in firearms...before the police lock your life away for years.

SERIOUSLY. That's the direction you are headed. A best case scenario sees you with a lifetime firearms ban, and no charges.

But hey, it's just a dumb opinion of mine, feel free to disagree and hope it doesn't go that far.

:D:D

That's nicely done. Full belly laugh outta that.

Thanks. I saved a copy of it for a rainy day.

You know all this about the ammo how? Believe everything in a gun magazine, do you? Or are they using it in one of the video games now?

The fail is stronger than usual in this one. Especially combined with the requirement to "drop a bad guy fast".

No kidding.

I have actually used this stuff and tested it in a variety of ways. The SSS is no quieter than any other round wether suppressed or not. In fact, in a semi-auto it is worse than garden variety subsonic because the short case clears the chamber too quickly and allows a pop of gas to exit the chamber.

It certainly doesn't produce a huge .500" wound track. Sometimes it flips around backwards after impact and sometimes it doesn't. We looked at a bunch of different "wound tracks" and none of them were all that impressive. Even being pure lead, the bullets barely deform at all. A normal HP bullet would produce a bigger wound. What the SSS does is carry more energy to distance than any other .22 rimfire and it produces a boatload more penetration than a normal .22 rimfire.

I too would love to hear how he got 12.6 and 12.3, and of course I'd love to hear more about that "prohib class to own a silencer".

Yeah, me too cause the sooner you can figure out a way for civies to own silencers, the quicker I will become a multi-millionaire. :)

ive played with some, and without a special twist rimfire barrel, its hard to stabilize. after trying about 10 different rimfires i was getting frustrated (some would hit the paper sideways at 15 yards), but it turns out my winchester 9422 seems to handle them well, groups are nothing to write home about, and its stinky stuff.

I'm only going to add to this as intelligent, informed sources have posted recently.

I had fairly okay results with the old Toz rimfire bolt actions.
The Toz-8 and 17 seemed to stabilize the SSS to a better degree than a Ruger 10/22 (normal factory twist 1:16 & the odd jam) and a Gevarm Model 3. (twist unknown and more stovepipes) Quarter sized group at 25 yards, which one was better? I cannot say, maybe the Ruger carbine ever so slightly better. Lots of keyholes too.
With the Toz 8 I found the sights corresponded with bullet impact out to 50-60 yards of so. Beyond that for instance, IIRC, @100 actual yards, about 130 (meters?) or so in the ramp sight. The 17, almost the exact same results. The best with the 17 was a 3.5 inch 5 shot group at 100 yards, again from a bench and no optics. Perhaps someone with better eyesight could do better than me.
I don't believe I had any keyholing with the russian rifles.

Just because I have one I tried them in a Ruger Mk II 5.5 inch bull barrel.
Shot groups at 25 yards with a two hand hold. About 2-3inches or so, not match grade by any means, but not bad.
But it cycled these pretty much flawlessly.

Not scientific at all, just rough work with irons in the warmer months.

What was the whole purpose of this large bullet small case cartridge, I mean a little more than the name that it implies or is that just it ?

Pretty much what Suputin said. Carries energy, due to it's mass. Supposed to work well in moderated firearms. The name Sniper SubSonic , seems to have lots of child appeal, too.
Cheap specialty product to make. Take a Short sized case, lengthen the bullet until you have the same OAL as a LR, adjust the powder load until it'll cycle, give it a 'cool' name. Winning formula, that.

Since it's hard to get, if available at all, it must be the s**t, eh?

Maybe not.

Seems like the weekly question around here. Had forgotten that same OP had asked about the stuff at least once in the past, too.

One day we'll have to get some stuff together and do a side-by-each comparison, and finally settle the question of whether the Mexican ammo or the Russian stuff smells more putrid. Not with my rifle, though.
