Been playing with this stuff recently, a 60gr .22lr round from aguila. Cycles in my 10/22 alright (also have shot with a standard bolt action), but I notice that the bullets are not stabilizing properly and are tumbling on their way down range, Im thinking a different twist ratio is needed to get these higher grain bullets to stabilize. Has anyone been having good success with these and if so what setup are you using?

Ive noticed it is quite dirty and leaves a lot of residue compared to other .22lr I have used, the gasses from the burnt powder also smell odd and it burns my eyes and makes them water unlike any other ammo I've shot before.

These are the rounds I have: http://www.theammosource.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=6796

In my Savage BV it would take out pencil dots at 50 yards but then end up with flyers for a couple of shots then back to pinpoint accuracy. Stabilization is the key

Had some years ago, before the fancy new box. An old cooey shot them fine. You are right about the smell,...kind of reminds me of a manure pile on fire.

I have shot a ton of those. The ones I used in the States came in a yellow carton.
They are excellent in an AR7/Henry survival rifle, especially with a laser optic, accurate, stable and cycle well in the auto.

They are very dirty especially noticeable with a can.

The rifles and one pistol I found stabilized them good enough for 25-75 yard shooting;
-TOZ-8, 60 to 75 yards, one had to add elevation to normal settings, but shot good enough to hit maybe a squirrel at 60 no problem
-TOZ-17, very much the same as the TOZ-8
-Winchester Model 490, half decent results at 50 yards, but just one single experiment only
-Ruger Mk II, fed/fired/shot these like they were made for them at 25 yards, right to point of aim

I was going to try them ,(the 60 grn SSS sniper) , till I saw they cost $84.95 + tax = $95.99 per brick ! I used to buy aguila SE at crapy tire about 20 years ago and it was the cheapest .22 ammo they sold. How the worm has turned ! I remember it was stinky stuff back then too . 19 cents per round is WAY too much to pay for anything Aguila. Trust me.
