The 2021 Cabin Fever Challenge has been open to submissions since Jan 1st. Its a 100m timed marksmanship challenge that tests ultimately the only thing that matters... effectively landing hits on target.

An 8" diameter paper target

4 different shooting positions

Mandatory 5 round reloads between shooting positions

20 rounds fired only.

Think the SKS is just as effective as the Type 81SA's ? now you can demonstrate it! shoot the challenge!

Factory is more effective then Bubba ? prove it! shoot the challenge!

and most importantly.... get out of the house and go have some fun!

open sights vs red dots vs magnifying optics
will these be three main streams?
so stand, knee, prone , knee?
mags on the floor vs mags on you? will these be subdivided?
we need also a trench position when you dig a trench , then shoot 5 rounds then level the trench, then time it ;)

Sounds like a Russian edition of the challenge, North Americans are generally too lazy for that sh!t haha
 
Whether or not the T81 shoots "better" doesn't make it a better built rifle--it is not. The SKS was designed as a rugged war horse for use during early cold war days. But, sound like fun!
 
I wouldn’t say that, in the US they wish they had the quantities and prices of sks that we do
I think in the long run an sks will outlast the type 81

well that is not what the chinese had in mind ... seems sks was a little less good than the t81 and i ill take an sks everyday if i had not my boat accident on a frozen lake last march ...

I'll take SKS as a SHTF rifle any day.. especially if the mag is at full capacity and stripper clips can be used with full 10 rounds in them. Comparing it to a semi-auto Type-81SA sporting rifle is kinda unfair - Type-81 assault rifle was introduced by China because of it's full-auto capabilities in the first place..
 
Once can't compare (as in "competition") different generations of rifles as a whole, and rifles of different purpose (SKS was accepted same days AK as supplementary rifle for those troops that would not need AK). One can only compare feature by feature. And even with accuracy one needs to consider if it's original military rifle or commercial one, made to god knows what specs.

truth is.... small armies all over the middle east and africa have been killing each other with sks rifles and in lots of cases UN troops sent to restore order. I have seen SKS rifles countless times in war footage from these countries. Not sure if any of the SKS D rifles were put into service by these types of combatants but the rifle itself has proven itself as an effective survival and combat weapon for decades. According to a friend who served in rawanda, SKS rifles were extremely common in the hands of combatants, as common as Ak47s

The greatest difference I consider the price. I cannot afford to pay near 2000$ for an improved SKS "borrowed from trudeau". He can change his mind any time and request the T81 back to him.

A bunch of military/farmers with SKS's in Nam. took on the U.S. military. I have read that the M16 just didn't cut it in the muddy conditions where the SKS would still function very well. As far as the challenge goes, I'm in when I have a chance.

No simple challenge of course will truly test all the conditions and roles a gun may have been deigned for. But much can still be observed from shooting something like the Cabin Fever Challenge.

The SKS may be more robust and possibly more reliable then an AR, But after using both in a high stress timed environment where actually connecting with your target is important one can quickly experience the benefits a gun like the AR provides. It then makes u think of moments like what was displayed in movies like Lone Survivor, We were soldiers, Black hawk down etc. Etc. Where being able to rapidly engage enemys more effectively was a huge part of what granted victory and allowed the friends rather then foes to return home.

For the same reasons the challenge also demonstrates why manual arms like the Enfield were kept in service for so long. How things like the now primitive Martini Henry held such an edge over the muzzleloaders it replaced. How things like the detachable mags changed everything. And how fielding optics brings such an advantage over those who dont.
 
I've had lots of SKS rifles. They are great for what they are. I would still pick an AR15 in the zombie apocalypse though.

Type 81 is more fun to shoot than an SKS in my opinion.
 
choosing sks vs t81 vs ak vs ar is like choosing big boobs, wasp like waist and ass, kindness and super ability to cook. you need to have it all or at least try it all ;) and possibly keep em all
 
AR are gone and the caliber is maybe good for punching holes, but that's it. My 22 can do that too.

disclaimer: I have never owned an AR nor did I feel the need for it. But that's just me. Paintball is fun if you want to play war games.
