So how much for the whole pkg with a premium quality Rock barrel and a Anshutz Trigger and a mag kit.

I have a McMillan A-5 on a 700P and it is the cats's ass. It is the most comfortable stock I have ever used. Someone mentioned about Robertson stocks made to order. I ordered my A-5 directly through McMillan and it a custom stock in every sense of the word. Robertson stocks are Canadian and I support Cdn companies when I can but if I am paying the money, I want what I think is the best. I don't shoot benchrest, it doesn't appeal to me. If Robertson stocks are comparible to McMillan for sniper type rifles used in field conditions, not on a range with known distances, benches and flags up to the hoop, why are the Marines not using them, why were they not used to replace the wood stocks on the C-3, or the new Timberwolf from PGWDTI, a Canadian Company. This is not a knock against Robertson Stocks, I am just curious.

EC: I'm starting a new thread on Ian Robertson's latest project stock for the Precision rifle. I don't want to hijack this thread.

Cheers,
Barney

EC,
If you want the best item (whatever it may be) you shouldn't worry too much about what the Marines etc use. That has to do with all kinds of politics and profit margins etc. One main reason is also production capacity, maybe Robertson can't produce hundreds of stocks in a short time. The army doesn't use the .223 because it is a ballistically superior round. If you are building one rifle for an individual you have different criteria than a supplier to the Marines.

The whole field conditions thing is funny because people used to say that my Timberwolf was a target rifle and that was why it was more accurate than their AI rifles. They said that their AI riofles were "mil-spec" and would stand up to "field use". Well now the Timberwolf is officially "mil-spec". It was still a capable rifle back when it was a "target" rifle. The rifle doesn't know if you are using wind flags or not.

I own both Mcmillan and Robertson stocks and am happy with both. If I buy another though, it will be a Robertson. My choice had nothing to do with it being Canadian. I wasn't comprimising to support Canada. I wanted to build the best rifle I could from the ground up. I have a custom reamer, PGW action, Jewell trigger, Broughton 5C barrel, Nightforce scope. When it came to the stock I checked them both out side by side and picked the Robertson. Realistically I'm sure the A5 would have been fine also.

Would the HS floor plate and mags or the V-Bull system fit the A-5 stock?

What does an A-5 stock cost?
Yes,requires some modifications to mag well if you are looking for a mag kit for a 700 you might want to try Badger as they are unveiling there system shortly for general sales McMillan I believe can mod their stocks to fit the Badger system as McMillan has ordered 500 units for there rifles. Cost depends upon accessories and options at time of ordering.

Richard, thanks for the support, what you say is very true. A good friend of mine in the US was involved when the original specs were written for the current Marine rifle. Lets say that what they ended up with was no where close to the original spec. My friend likes to comment that the Canadian Cadet rifle team has better rifles than Marine snipers.

I had Rick at Alberta Tactical Rifle install my 700 Sendero .300 Win mag in the Mcmillan A-5.I am very impressed with the stock and the amount of adjustment offered to taylor to the individual shooter. They don't come cheap but are worth every penny especially if you are doing a all out custom wich I am in the process of as well with this rifle.
Here is a photo of the finished product.

Regards
Peter
