AICS stocks ...

Common misconception. EVERY rifle should be bedded, regardless of the stock. Two mass produced parts are never going to mate perfectly and will thus induce stresses into the action. The first thing every rifle should have done to it is to be bedded.

Unless its a Sako TRG or AI AW etc where the action is attached or bonded to an aluminum profile. The stock in these rifles are independent of the action and do not require bedding.

The action is bonded to the stock, in th AI AW , not independent, I think what Suputin was saying is that every action should be skim bedded at a minimum to allow for imperfections in the mating surfaces, in other words so are the AW and TRG systems,

I Own several rifles that got Aluminum Block bedding, and Non of them I bedded, and it work out very fine for me, especially the AICS, there is No requirement for bedding on that stock. I agree to all those that said there is no Bedding Require for this Type of chassy, but then if you feel that there is a need for bedding, YOU DON"T NEED BEDDING!....
Thank you for the Complement, I live to Build, Love building Gun,

"That stock looks great. What is the price on one of those bad boys? Would it require any serious mods to a 700 Police?" , No there is No modification require if you used the Old factory recoil lug, but if you decide to put bigger one in, then milling is require to open up the channel...

Bedding is used to provide a perfect mating surface between the two parts. There is no way that two disparate parts mass produced by two different companies in two different parts of the world will fit together with 100% precision. You can scream and shout that the sun is blue and agree with the people who agree with you (possibly the silliest argument I have heard in a long time) but that doesn't make it true.

I too have several rifles with aluminum bedding blocks and what you will notice when you take them apart is that there are wear or rub marks on the bedding block where the action was touching it and those marks are almost always quite narrow showing that the contact surface between the action and stock is very small.

ALL stocks need to be bedded, wether you agree or not. There is simply no other way to achieve 100% contact to minimize stresses imparted into the action. To shout your opposition only shows you don't understand the facts. It is at these times it would be best to keep quiet so people may only assume you are a fool rather than your opening your mouth and erasing all doubt. :jerkit:

An AI rifle is bonded to the aluminum chassis stock with glue. That IS bedding, just without the release compound and the ability to take the thing apart. :kickInTheNuts:

Why does everything turn into a fight? You want bedding, go for it, you don't think you need it, don't get it. I probably won't get bedding with a chassis but that's me. Now bring on the GUNS!
