Air Arms TX200 .22cal

Previously I had been interested in getting an Air Arms TX200 in .177cal. Well I changed my mind...

I stopped at Air Gun Source in Peterborough today and picked up a pretty darn nice looking air rifle (in my opinion anyway).

A TX200 in .22 cal., walnut stock.

The damn thing has nicer figure in the wood than any big game rifle I've ever owned.

I got Sports Match high dovetail rings, to fit a Hawke Airmax 3-9x40 scope.

The dude there suggested giving her a good rubdown with Boiled Linseed Oil, so I did that.

Right as I was trying to get some pics of the darn thing, after the Linseed Oil, the friggin' battery on my cell phone gave out.

Needless to say, pics to follow later.

Congrats on your new air rifle. The TX200 is a beautiful springer and very accurate, you won't regret it. They are a little heavy. I shoot mine from a bench in my back yard. I would like to see how your rifle turned out with the boiled linseed oil, I would like to try it on mine, the factory finish is a little dull, however a nice stock for an air rifle.

The Linseed Oil darkened up the wood a bit, but brought out the grain more. I can't complain.
Do you normally require a second or third coat?

I traveled from Alberta to Ontario and had the visit to AGS scheduled as a PRIORITY STOP! Haha.

The dude there was super nice to deal with, I'd recommend that store 100% to anybody, and yes getting to inspect the rifle(s) was awesome.
They showed me 2, the second one was much 'plainer', but still beautiful. My brother came along and curiously, I thought, he preferred the 'plainer' stocked rifle.

The wife was pissed as usual, and as usual completely forgot that I'd told her and her sister about going there to buy an air rifle. I did conveniently fail to inform her of the $$ amount.

For the record they sold it to me at Alberta price, meaning just the 5%GST and none of that Ontario HST crap.

$1750 with 2 cans of pellets, I got the light 14gr and med 15gr pellets, the rings, scope and air rifle...

I think with linseed oil 3-4 coats wouldn't hurt it. When I got my rifle I got them to text me pics of two or three rifle's and picked the one I liked best. I dealt with Travis on the phone, he seemed like a nice guy and was very helpful. Now you can get some trigger time in your back yard. BTW don't tell your wife how much you spent. lol

Pics are not the best, they really don't capture the grain in the wood. The last 5 pics is after 1 coat of Linseed Oil, and maybe you can see the wood is a bit darker?

As far as the scope and rings, I just went with what the dude recommended. Seems like a pretty darn fine scope.

I kill House Sparrows as they are an invasive species, and the bastards are always harassing the Tree Swallows that nest in our yard. Also the occasional Starling, again due to they are an invasive species, plus the odd Magpie and Red Squirrel, but only if they are a problem.

The Sparrows are wary little bastards and present a small target. This air rifle should increase my kill rate substantially.

Travis sent me pictures before I picked my stock. I went with a 10 shot repeater in 177. I really like it.

Just threw a second coat of Linseed Oil on the stock.

The ONLY problem with this air rifle is I'm not going to get to shoot it for another couple of weeks...

No trouble at all, it looks great. You lucked out with the grain on that stock. Did you go right over the original finish with the linseed oil?

I did just put the Linseed Oil on the original finish.
It's basically what the dude at AGS said to do.

I'm pretty ignorant on the subject... first jug of Linseed Oil I've ever bought actually.

Is there a better method?

Are you talking about raw Linseed Oil or BOILED Linseed Oil ? Raw oil never dries, Boiled dries some what...

two different things... neither of which I would use.

I prefer Tru-Oil finish or Lin-Speed finish, both commercial stock finishes.

He mentioned it was boiled linseed oil. I have used True Oil on my brother's TX200, it looked good when it was done. I used 6 coats if memory is correct, using steel wool between coats. I never removed the original finish, I just rubbed it down with 0000 steel wool. I got my rifle to finish, I'm just looking for the best way to go about it.

You just need to get her into the sport... and then you can shop for his & her air rifles... Beside, you just normalized spending $2k on a airgun

I bought my TX200 in .22 about five years ago, but mine has the beech stock. I mounted a Hawke scope using the same rings, bringing the total cost to around $800 back then. The JSB 15.89gr pellets shoot well, and they are very effective on pigeons, crows, magpies and ground squirrels to around 30 yards.
